It's Sad That The Company Went Bankrupt. The Sneakers Were A Good Idea However We Are So Hung Up On How Much Stuff Costs That We Couldn't Support This Brother And Make A Statement To These Sneaker Companies That Are Ripping Us Off Left And Right. In Most Cases His Sneakers Were Tested To Be Just As Good As The Over $100 Sneakers. What We Are Mostly Paying For Is The Design And The Packaging. This Was Our Opportunity To Support A Black Businessman And We Blew It. If We As A People Had Started Wearing His Product In Mass, Then They Could Have Been The New Style. All It Takes Is For A Number Of People To Start Wearing Something For It To Become A Trend. Not How Much It Costs. If We Had Supported Him Who Knows How Big The Company Could Have Become And How Much Better The Product Could Have Gotten.
Well he can always say its a birthmark...lol. Seriously it was a good idea that you could get sneakers at a good price but i guess they weren't the coolest shoes on the market because they weren't expensive enough...people need to teach their children to respect their money or you will only be buying shoes at $150.00 a pop.
@ebonieladi,
I feel you. I never been a shoe dude, but I try and keep a couple of nice ones. I lived in Korea for 2 years and saw how those cats make the shoes for less than 20 dollars per shoe and turn around and sell them to the shoe companies for 35 or 45 dollars and the Nike and the others sell them for 110 and up! [EXPLETIVE] is crazy black people are some of the dumbest people on earth; we are the only race in modern history who are able and smart enough to see our own demise yet we do nothing about it! Give our money to [EXPLETIVE] and Asians who could care less about you or your generation. They look at us in one color and no its not black; it green! And we eat it all up.
Marbury should have took a couple of business classes because it is a simple case of supply and demand. The company he used sold cheap items, just like Wal-Mart, but obviously the demand was too low for that company and they filed for Chap 13. Case closed.
Stephon Marbury is a utterly disappointment to me, I remember when this dude got drafted I was a big fan and 12 years now and this cat is str8 up Garbage and I mean Garbage in a sense of his loser mentality, he don't wanna win, all that talent and a str8 loser.....It was not Isiah Thomas fault they lost in New York it's this guy...he has no pride.......Glad Kevin Garnett got a ring this is payback to Starbury for sh*tted on KG 10 years ago...
Starbury was a great accomplishment. He can always be proud of it whether if its in business or not..How many NBA players have done that??? Make sneakers that everyone can afford? Where a mother can buy relatively nice looking sneakers sneakers for her kid and not spend 80 dollars or more. I dont know about the tat on the dome...but somewhere else..he can always be proud of what he did.
Theres nothing wrong with failing..NOT TRYING is SHAMEFUL!!!
and i dont think he failed! thats just the nature of business..it can be a gamble for so many reasons.
@ EBONIELADI and ZONE3
I 100% cosign! Black people (we) make less money doing the same jobs as our white counter parts yet WE are the ones who are so caught up in taking OVER HALF of our check and buying shoes that cost $100-$150 and these expensive $80 pants and shirts with somebody else's name on it! We need to be smart and wake up and invest our money and invest in minority owned business and invest in our community. We are responsibile for our own demise! WAKE UP! Why is it an issue that the shoes were "just" $15.00?????
I pray for me and my people daily! Lord help us!
You know, I have the utmost respect for Mr. Starbury. I commend him for having the courage to do the right thing---as it applies to this tennis shoe madness.
I've supported him since the store opened and have purchased several pairs of shoes for myself as well as my neices and nephews. I truly hope that after his business gets reorganized, he can stay in business.
yo stephon marbury is such an idiot!!! whay get a tat of the brand that makes ur sneak on ur head?!...and they went bankrupt? He looks like an utter fool... and for some reason i always thought he was always on the sweet side... i dont care how many kids he got and how many hot girl he don slept with... he still looks and comes off as sweet lips...how u doin??
Ugh!!
People.... he was looking out for parents that had children ..... more then one not grown people.
It cost a lot to buy two or three pairs of shoes for more then one child I got a few for my son... and anyone who has boys know they dog shoes out... Marbury shoes past the test for me... no tears or hardly wear...
I have always bought my son some Nike's and they came apart ...in a matter of a couple of weeks...
It's sad he was on a mission... but it didn't work out Steve AND Barry wasn't the way to go...
He should had the his name on the store... and continue to make advertise and P.R. work. And he should have partner with other NBA star...
Great athlete, mediocre ball player. He left the T Wolves because he was jealous of KG and couldn't be "The MAN" Had he stayed they might have won a ring together but KG(a great player) got one without him. Starberry has done NOTHING with his athletic ability and his career is in the sh#tter. The guy sounds like he rides the short us when he talks. Hopefully the tat is not permanent
Lololololol.......@"idiot"......MTO.....too funny!
I do respect the man for the sneakers though. If more people thought like that....maybe most wouldn't be in foreclosure and having visits from the repo man!!!
Any tattoo on the head is stupid no matter what the cause!!!
--Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it!! :o)
H-Rap-Brown utmost respect due to this brother...the shoes he helped to put out made a lot of mothers fathers and sons happy...looked clean like air force ones...without bankrupting your family..
bankruptcy doesnt mean its over..it just means they are being protected while they reorganize...which they will be doing..finding ways to cut spending..
but jordon is raping yall asses and you buy his kicks but not starbury's which look exactly like nikes...smh
Well said H-Rap we would rather pay 3 times for what the shoe is made than to help start a movement. Nike and the stars that pitch their sneakers are laughing all the way to the Bank at our ignorant azzes...Marbury has done some some stupid things in his career, but this wasn't one of them. I hope they get out of bankruptcy and continue to have the chance to sell to families who appreciate what they are doing
Every business venture that Marbury owns have that star...That's his own trademark logo, every neahgga should have one...Everybody hates a flashy creative neahgga who ain't afraid to think out of the box!...They bet not never give a neahgga like me money, I'ma have a tattoo of a Ussy outlined on my 4 head with the words, "I work hard!...I ain't gone lie though, them damn shoes do hurt a neahgga feet fo'real!...I think he use Tonka Toy Plastic for them bastards...I'm sticking with Jordan 11's and Stacey Adams for now...He has a good idea, but innovative my azz!
He was doing this for the kids. In other words giving back to the community. No it doesn't suck for him, he'd paid but it sucks for kids who can't afford nice shoes because the prices are too expensive. This is sad. And actually he isn't dumb, it's people who think it's cool to spend close to $200 for a pair of shoes because ur dumbass is gettin' ripped off by these shoe companies. Same way we're gettin' ripped off with has prices.
THE STEVE AND BARRY'S FILED FOR CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY BECAUSE THEY TRIED TO EXPAND FASTER THAN THEIR MONEY ALLOWED THEM TO AND THEY CAN'T PAY THERE LOANS BACK. HOWEVER, THE STORE HAS CONTINUED TO MAKE A PROFIT, BUT IT'S NOT BALANCING OUT. THE PRICE OF STEPHON'S SHOE LINE AS WELL AS THE OTHER CELEBS CLOTHING LINE ISN'T THE PROBLEM. IT'S JUST THAT STEVE AND BARRY'S EXPAND TOO MUCH, AND WAY TOO SOON.
ebonieladi SAYS IT BEST "It's Sad That The Company Went Bankrupt. yall dumba$$es laugh if you want to
I took a 20, bought 2 pairs of Starburys....the low top joints .....TO WALK AROUND IN.....cuz i'm a GROWN A$$ MAN and don't have to impress NOBODY......they were on SALE for $8.98......
IN CT, we don't pay taxes on individual clothing items UNDER 75$...so them joints cost me LESS than 18 dollors
I copped those, got CHANGE and went over to MICKY D's to get a double cheeseburger to hold me over till i got HOME
You ignorant NUKKAS spending all that hard earned money to TRY and look fly if ya want to.
Steph, you did the right thing...i don't care what NOBODY says.....
THANK YOU!!!!!
ALSO...if that is his trademark LOGO.....it don't matter if they went out of business or not...
MTO....so juvenile sometimes
How much more of an idiot is HE, than you dumbass NUKKAS putting chinese symbols tattoos on your phucking body and you can't even read ENGLISH???
Let alone CHINESE
Who's the bigger IDIOT????
Or you dumb BI TCHES who spend over 20 bucks for ANY purse.
Hundreds and thousands for a purse with no money IN DA BI TCH...........and Steph is the idiot??
I agree with eboniladi and Crossnation. It's a shame when all the ingredients were in place to make this a success--especially in the current state of the nation where gas prices has us rushing for the cheapest gas prices in town or showing more interests in cheaper alternatives cars (hybrids). But the same cant be said for shoes or fashion for that matter.------------ On the flip side though I give props to Marbury for doing this--but Marbury is known around the NBA for being selfish(blaming everyone but himself) under pressure with the many NBA teams he's played on from Minnesota (Imagine what could have been with him and KG had he not been selfish) to NY. That type of attitude typically does not make a good businessman. Hopefully another store will pick the brand up cause its really great for our economy in a time of NEED not WANT. co-sign with rexchap--Spend $$$ wisely.
Them sneakers are 15 bucks. You cant even get an entree at Red Lobster for that and those joints are good for the hood? I mean real talk you gotta respect the man. I some what respectable baller doing something for the hood. No matter who much they look like $hit. He the man for taking care of the have nots that want to wear what the ballers do. I give respect for that.
I purchased my son almost every one of his shoes...my son still got brand new starburys in a box. Him making that shoe was an excellent idea I blame us as people cause we are so caught up with tryin to keep up with the jones. I'm no different I have probably 85% of all the jordans but I saw marbury doin something and I supported him. S**t I even have a pair and a d**n jersey. When the store started sellin ben wallace shoe I brought my sons whole freakin basketball team a pair and mom some of those I think her name is venus williams(one of those sistas who play tennis)shoes. So when stephon made his shoe people started to jump on the band wagon so I hope he just finds a new store and keeps this goin.
