I have nothing against B. I think it is always admirable when people of color march to the beat of their own drum and make something of themselves. B has been doing this since she was a little girl. When you know what you want in life and you go after it non-stop and the doors open for the opportunities that come your way, how can you stop progress????? The real point of the article to me was her NOT ADMITTING that she did not write the song. As a song writer and publisher, I KNOW that it's not hard to find out who wrote a song! Everyone who writes one is signed up with one of the agencies who is responsible for tracking that song and it's lyrics so the writer can get paid. BMI, ASCAP, SESAC. Believe it. The only way she could get away with saying that is there was a COLLABORATION and no one's name stands out over the other. If two or more people wrote a song, there is a percentage that is going to be assigned to each writer so they can get paid. It's on the books. Either she wrote the song or Neo. It 'ain't ' hard to find out if you are really interested.
That's my only concern. I know from experience that you can write a song and someone else can get the credit if they have the hook up. One line can be written by you from a song and you can 'claim' you wrote it - but in reality, you ain't getting but a piece of that pie if there are other writers involved. If Neo wrote that song alone - believe me - he's getting 100% writers and he is making all kinds of money from that song! |
