Now I understand Tyra's need to exploit drama for ratings, but this is ridiculous.
It is a shameful play for ratings to put these ignorant black women on her show. As a black woman, I am incensed and embarrassed to see black women exude so much self loathing. They hate their blackness to such an extent that they would use CLOROX on their own skin in order to appear lighter, or whiter. And they do it to their children too!!! OMG!!
This goes to show the damage that has been done to the African American psyche. We still have vestiges of our society that believe that lighter skin is better, more beautiful. These poor souls look at our African features and see ugliness. These are the same idiots that go out and make babies with the soul purpose of giving birth to anything that doesn't look like it has African blood. I know it sounds as if I am ripping into inter-racial couples, but I am not. I am just sick and tired of being exposed to people showing their hatred of blackness, as if it is some disease, some evolutionary mishap that should be bred out of existence. These women should be sent to intense psychotherapy and their children should be taken away from them. They are going to give rise to another generation of children who hate themselves and hate their own people. They are giving our racist countrymen reason to keep raising their children to hate us too.... especially since some of us still hate ourselves.
I feel like I am rambling, but I am truly disgusted by this article and I am going to find Tyra's website and let her know what I think of this show and of her for producing this type of sludge.
There is nothing wrong with being black, dark or light. There is nothing wrong with nappy hair, big noses and full lips. God made us the way we are. Lighter skin and European features will never be better than African bloodlines. We are all Gods children, but never forget who God made first!!!

The self hate runs VERY deep in some segments of our community....To so something so unhealthy and to impose that on your children when they are so young and impressionable....
One one hand, I do see where this is creating a horrible image of black women and that its being pimped out there for profit....On the other hand, I think it needs to be called out...Skin bleaching is an extreme, but variations of this can be seen in any city on any day....light contacts, long blond weaves, etc.
Black IS beautiful in all forms so there is no need to favor one over the other, but that has been lost on too many in our community.

Racial issues aside, many people do not know that bleaching creams are incredibly dangerous especially when used over a long period of time. Prolonged use has been proven to cause cancers, tumors and other health issues. Many of these creams have been banned in countries around the world because of their toxicity to the human body. The fact that a mother has children using it at such a young age is scary.
I hope Tyra has a medical professional on her show to educate these women about what their doing to themselves and their children.

Like others have posted before me, color is a BIG issue in the Asian and Indian communities. So why are there no females of THOSE races on her panel? In India, the darkest of the dark indians, (many residing in southeast Indian, but not all) are labeled "undesirables" and are frowned upon basically by the MAJORITY of the country because of their uncanny likeness to the Negroid race. And don't get me started on all the Asian kats nowadays who think they've "arrived" in this psuedo-Superior European culture after they've bagged a blond, white chick. SMDH

Glad I was brought up loving how black people look. Unlike what Brokensilence says, I do not fake the front (wearing fake blond hair and contacts is just as bad as bleaching) and have always found black to be beautiful. The only way that will happen is those of us who reach the limelight whether visual artists, singers, athletes, models, actors, showcase the beauty of black people in a positive manner. Quite a few sistas in hollywood have bowed down to the pressure by making their nose smaller, lips smaller or purposely avoid people of darker hue. I am in the creative field so I am trying to symbolize that more in my work. I had a showcase a few years ago and noticed some little girl looking at something I did, she was about 7 or 8 and her mom said she wanted to do what I do. That made me feel good. You can't tell someone to do something you aint trying to do so I will do what I can to influence the young because its sad to say but blacks who are beyond 10years of age if not a lil less have basically been soiled imagewise about what is and isn't beautiful of black people. I see it constantly on MTO whenever a "brotha" who barely is black or "woman" who barely is black get raised to the skies as the most beautiful of black people. Shemar Moore, Halle Berry, Boris kujoe, Melyssa Ford, Beyonce etc etc etc. I believe we have such beautiful shades of black but seems that we only sweat a certain kind.

I had aunts who couldnt stand this dude that was dating my mom back in the day. He was very darkskinned. I have a cousin now who don't date darkskinned man, she said this in front of me and my bro but stated "no offense" to us lol. It doesn't really surprise me that there are blacks that wish they were lighter or whiter, because life as a black person in this world requires a strength that you CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND. It, at times, is a burden that your white ass could never carry. You wouldn't survive.

Hey all, I'm in no way trying to be racist (I am white) because I have some black/dark skinned friends that I'd do anything for, but I myself JOKE and tell them that black IS NOT beautiful, (joke is the key word ok). I had aunts who couldnt stand this dude that was dating my mom back in the day. He was very darkskinned. I have a cousin now who don't date darkskinned man, she said this in front of me and my bro but stated "no offense" to us lol. My mom when I bring this to her she saids some dumbshit like "I believe their are some pretty black women out there" her saying that proves my point in that she thinks there are a handful of them lmao. Also, when I was younger, mom's said things that I didnt understand but as a adult it was pretty much hurtful. He gives me a fukking headache! From what I gather, he's upset because black men in society are demonized and then it hurts him that black women can climb on the black man's back regurgitating statistics along with any negative thing we hear about the black males, from the white man...what he calls doing the white man's bidding. He feels he gets up everyday and defies statistics and that it doesn't matter what black men do, whether they're good to us or downright evil, we'll paint them all with a broad stroke(the whole black man is the problem for all our ills). When Montel Williams did a show about people who had self hatred due to their racial characteristics, he included different people and I like that too. He had an Asian woman on there going thru surgery to have her slanted eyes rounded.

i feel thats its not that they wanna change their race. i think that its because they wanna be lighter in skin tone since nowadays the black community make girls and guys believe that red bone or yellow as you reffer to them is better and sexier. i dont take offense to women ultering small details such as their hair because when ur hair is curly u want it straight and vice versa. that applies to every race because thats just how a womans nature is. however, as far as skin tone goes, i am a beautiful brown person with full lips and thick hips. i will never want to change that about me. I just wanted to comment on your skin bleaching show, and also your lighter skin vs darker skin show, a while back. I am a mixed girl, and I've been thought up as every nationality under the sun, and been called at one point or another every racial slur out there. Lets just say I dont have an easy answer to "what are you ?". There is English, Indian, African, and Irish in my blood. I would just like you to know it is not only African descent women who feel this way. I feel the same. I go from very pale in winter to very dark in summer, and when I tan I HATE it. My friends are prodominently white, and I straighten my hair and I ignore my indian culture just to get that much closer to looking white. I am not proud of this AT all and I think everyone is beautiful, but it is very hard. and there is a big difference between a white girl tanning, and a brown or black girl tanning. its a different color of tan. But the important difference is your never too white for anyone, but there are still people out there saying your too dark. I do not agree with skin bleaching, but I completely understand. What I want to know is, are you going to do a reverse show illustrating what lighter skinned/ white women go through to look darker - such as fake tan lotions, actual tanning, etc. and the harm it can cause? This is especially alarming given the higher percentage of skin cancer outbreaks among younger women. Black women that do not realize their own beauty are no different than lighter skinned/white women who equally do not see the gift of the color they were given. God made us all different for a reason and unfortunately it is an ongoing struggle for all women to realize.

sorry one more... Dear Tyra, As a white woman who grew up in prodominately white area I was initially shocked to see the extremes to which some black women are willing to go to lighten their skin. But after some reflection I realized that there is a similar phenomena happening in the white community, especially among women. Oddly enough, there are many white women who excessively tan to make their skin darker. (I tan as well, but I do not believe I do it to an extreme.) It would be interesting if you did a show that focused on skin color issues that both black and white women face. I know white women who are addicted to tanning and even are darker than some of my black friends. It seems that regardless of race, people always want what they do not naturally have. With the discovery of the Gospel of Judas and other writings, we can see that the Bible is a record of history; a record of history written by men, who often times have differing views on a single event witnessed by many.
The old testament, written thousands of years earlier, obviously, has changed over the millennia. But I am not a theologian; I am not qualified to debate the accuracy or inaccuracy if you will, of any ancient text.
For people who are easily bamboozled, if someone makes a compelling enough argument in regards to human history based on some fact, I can see how they could be sucked in.
Da Advocator represents an unfortunate segment of our society, both white and black, that is willing to entertain the ideas that dangle off the fringes of rational thought. He along with others like him need an escape from the world in which they live; some lack the coping mechanisms that allow others to survive in austere conditions, therefore they must create alternate endings for themselves.
Now I see why so easy for this gentleman to blame black women for his inadequacies. His inability to rationalize the world around him has led him down a path and ultimately to these fool-hearty conclusions. That is why some of his arguments, on the surface, seem so compelling. However, using the old proverb, the higher the monkey climbs, the more of his ass he exposes.
It is evident, at least to me, that this is a confused man looking for answers. I was a little cruel in my other posts... I made fun of his beliefs and I apologize. Really. Even if they are silly to me, these are his beliefs and as an open minded (at least I try to be) citizen of he world, I must allow other people to have their opinions an beliefs, no matter how repulsive they may be to me.
As long as the real beacons of knowledge and light continue to shine in arenas such as this (cyberspace), I don't think this guy and his cronies can do much damage.

I have a story....As a light skinned black child growing up, I would get very dark from playing in the sun for hours, during our 2 month summer break. My dark skinned mother who is addicted to bleaching cream , said to me one day, " girl you getting black, put some of this on", dabbing her black crooked fingers in a jar of Vantex bleaching cream. I said, "what's wrong with me being black, you black ". I almost got the ass whooping of my life because I said this to her. She was ashamed of being dark skinned. My poor mother to this day swears by 3%+ hydroquionine. I feel sorry for her sometimes. Most dark skinned black woman are this sick

I understand how they feel but at the same time I feel that the female that bleach her son is just keeping the stereotype going about light skin being better. I can relate, I've heard your cute for a dark skin female, or you have a nice brown tone, don't get any darker though! But I never bleached my skin. But everybody goes through shyt, the light skins grow up being adored by the boys but teased and hated by the dark skin little girls. I've seen both sides!
