: Tyra, you know you're not right for this....
I think it was a great show to try expose this issue.
I think she was trying to help these women and shed light on the situation.
If every talkshow called the cops on their guest, guests would be scared to go on the show and the topic would remain taboo and not exposed.
That mother was buggin though and needs some serious help. I hope Tyra Show at least offered some serious therapy!
It may not be physical abuse, but she is what's wrong with us as a race! What is she teaching her sons who will undoubtedly grow up to ONLY date white women? She's not comfortable within her own wretched skin and she's passing that dysfunction on to her sons! The NAACP need to whoop her azz for her!
IT WASN'T PHYISCAL ABUSE IT WAS MORE MENTAL & THE LADY THAT WAS BLEACHING HER CHILDREN SKIN SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED OUT ON THAT SHE WASN'T TEACHING HER KIDS TO LOVE THEM-SELVES & LOVE ANYBODY WHO DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME SKIN COLOR. IT SAD HOW THE LITTLE BOYS THOUGHT THAT YOU CAN OLNY BE LOVED OR ACCEPTED IF U HAVE A LIGHTER SKIN COMPLEXION.
BUT IT STARTED IN HER HOME SHE SAID HER MOTHER HAD BEEN BLEACHING HER SKIN SINCE SHE WAS 5. I JUST HAVE WE HAVE COME SO FAR AS A PEOPLE & STILL HAVE SOME THAT HATE THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN.
i luv tyra......on to this lady someone seriously needs to call children services for her a$$ she is messing up these little boys thinking by making them think that there is somthing rong with being dark skin..but its a problem that she has with herself also seeing that shes not light skin that she needs to fix first and then she can hopefully a better mom to her kids
THAT_GIRL WHAT ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT?
ANYWAY...SMDH ON THIS, I MESSED THE SHOW. BUT I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE IF I WANTED TO SEE THIS WOMEN MENTALLY DESTROY THESE INNOCENT CHILDREN MINDS. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOUR SKIN COLOR, IT'S ABOUT KNOWIN' WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU CAME FROM AND BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION OF SELF. NOW WE ALL KNOW A PERSON CAN'T ACHIEVE THAT UNLESS THEY HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF SELF ESTEEM. WHERE THE HELL IS THEIR FATHER, GRANDFATHER, UNCLES SOME POSITIVE MALE FIGURE TO TEACH THESE CHILDREN ABOUT SELF WORTH AS FAR AS BEING A AFRICAN AMERICAN IN THIS PHUCKED WORLD. AND WHO OR WHAT MADE THIS LADY FEEL SO UGLY ABOUT HERSELF, WHERE IN THE HELL WAS HER ROLE MODELS AT, AND I'M NOT TALKIN' ABOUT ON TV, PHUCK THAT, I'M TALKIN' ABOUT IN HER FAMILY AND/OR NEIBORHOOD. THIS IS SOME OF THE SADDEST SH!T I HAVE EVER HEARD OF. THIS AIN'T NOWHERE NEAR PERFECT BUT I'LL BE DAMN IF I RAISE MY CHILDREN TO BE ASHAMED OF WHO THEY ARE.
look, the reality behind this skin bleaching is that due to Willie Lynch Syndrome, people feel that as long as you're lighter complected you are considered pretty automatically. and that's very evident in many of the non cute light skinned ones. I think those chicks on the show feel that if they were "lighter" they would become beautiful. but the reality is that most of these chicks were overweight and getting lighter aint gonna do sh*t for them. all the money they wasted on trying to get lighter they should try to loose some weight and see how that changes their perspective on themselves.
the real problem is that these people are using the "color issue" as a scapegoat for the fact that they just plain and simple, don't like theselves. because i promise you, if they got lighter, they'd find something else wrong with themselves.
this really dissapoints me because I LOVE the way I look and i'm a beautiful chocolate women and whatever you are, you should love it....
IM GLAD TYRA DID THAT SHOW TO EXPOSE THE MEDIA FOR ALWAYS PUTTING LIGHTER WOMEN ON A PEDESTAL, WE STILL AREN'T EQUAL IN THIS DAY AND AGE AND ITS SAD. THE WOMEN ON THE SHOW WERE DOING DUMB THINGS BUT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT THEY ARE VICTIMS OF SOCIETY. I WAS ONCE AT THE POINT WHERE I WANTED TO DO THE SAME EXACT THING BECAUSE I WAS CONSTANTLY TEASED ABOUT BEING DARK BUT I LEARNED TO LOVE MYSELF AND WHEN YOU LEARN TO LOVE WHO YOU ARE AND HAVE THE CONFIDENCE THEN PEOPLE WILL SEE THE BEAUTY IN YOU AS WELL. WE HAVE OVERCOME SO MUCH AS BLACK PEOPLE BUT WHY ARE WE SEPARATING OURSELVES IN OUR OWN RACE, IT MAKES NO SENSE. ITS 2008 WE NEED TO MOVE ON FROM THAT
SHE DON'T HAVE TO CALL AUTHORITIES CUZ THEY WAS PUTTIN ON SKIN BLEACH N IT'S NOT ILLEGAL. IT'S HEALTHY THO. THE SKIN BLEACH IS SUPPOSED TO CLEAR OF BLOTCHES AND DARK SPOTS, BUT THAT LADY IS USIN IT ON HERSELF N HER KIDS 2 MAKE EM LIGHTER...MTO DID YA'LL WATCH DA SHOW???
I GUESS SHE SHOULD'VE CALLED THE COPS ON THE LADIES THAT SMOKE A PACK OF SQUARES WHILE PREGNANT 2?
I remember during grammar school when I was in the 1st grade, being called ugly by girls because of my dark complexion, it lead me 2 covering myself with powder in an attempt 2 make myself light, after my grandmother caught me & whooped my behind, she sat me down & told me 2 never be ashamed of my complexion. I feel that all of this skin bleaching [EXPLETIVE] is Michael Jackson's fault.
those girls on that show were truly crazy. the lengths that they were willing to go too (with the fake doctor and all) just to be light was mind blowing. i mean imma dark skin girl and i too have experienced the superficial saying " ur cute for a dark skin girl" as if dark skin girls are historicly ugly and to see a pretty one is like seeing a unicorn.lol. but i wouldnt change my complexion if god gave me the option too. i wouldnt look right lightskin.lol. usually when something is meant to be and you change it, it dont look right. ex: nose jobs, lip injections most of those folks look horrible with that stuff and some folks who bleach their skin look like ghosts. just be happy with what you have, reality is some people may like it and others wont thats just life. but if you like ur self what others think about u shouldnt matter. now is it super easy to stay positive about ur self when society says that ur complexion is unattractive, not always but, ive learned to be happy and accept what i cant change.
I look at bleaching your child as child abuse and mental abuse. I noticed in school when u were light skinned in school, People and the teacher's in school would treat u better and u would be the student the teacher liked! When u were real dark (Wesley Snipes), people were mean to you and joked on u and treated u bad, but they did more so by jokes. I noticed to when u are like my complexion (dark-medium brown), like Denzel Washington or rapper Cameron, or (caramel) Mary J. Blige or ashanti, no one says anything about your complexion at all! Its like brown skin, the medium or caramel's, no one jokes at those skin tones. Is meduium the safe Color? I think her kids should be taken from here and raised by another family member or she should get a mental check!
Ok props to Tyra.
She addressed what we wanted her to in doing this show.
-Explain why they bleached (lack of representation in the media) -talked about white girls tanning -talked about it being popular in Asia
Here's my thing...
I believe the children's father walked out on her and she's lashing out. Nothing new with mothers taking their issues with the fathers out on their children. Did he leave her for a lighter woman? I'm just speculating. I mean, at what point did she decided dark brown wasn't pretty? She doesn't see herself in the media, but growing up she definitely saw a lot less of herself. What...she's just now realizing this? If she hated her complexion so much, she would've never mated with a brown-skinned man (by the looks of 2 lesser bleached children the father is just as brown as her). I could see her "rationale" if she mated with white, yet the kids came out dark, then wanting to bleach, because she tried to prevent it with her self-hating ass. But if you hate your complexion, and don't want your kids to have that same complexion...why not "try" and prevent it? something is not adding up. Again, I ask, at what point did come she come to the erroneous conclusion that black wasn't beautiful?
They said she puts bleach on them everyday. Did she recently start doing this because the other two boys don't look bleached at all. I see no discoloration resulting from "everyday" treatment. This lady wants attention. This is a public plea to the children's father. "Come back to me. I'm hurting your kids."
Two of the kids looked meduim, and 1 looked light skinned. The mother is dark, I believe the father was light skinned like the oldest boy and she was pray they all came out light, but it didnt happen. I must say, I almost threw up when I saw the show. I thought it was gross. Brown, dark, or light is all fly to me! Black women are beautiful!
You maybe right MANSEMINOLE. DNA is a hell of a thing. From what I've witnessed, children take the color of their fathers. I've seen black women give birth to light kids (or at the very least 2/3) will be light and then I've seen white women/very light women with dark chocolate men give birth to dark children (relative to that person's complexion not compared to 100% black) or that medium caramel complexion. Those two children look like both parents are dark brown to me.
Later in life, the parents will realize the huge mistake they're making. Besides the psychological issue, people who bleach can't go out in the sun. Who can keep a child out of the sun? Especially after they get into school and become athletes. This is when the heat will begin affecting their pigment. They will become mottled looking. Ever notice Mike Jackson with an umbrella all the time?
I love being outdoors and I don't want to take an umbrella with me everywhere I go. The skin bleaching is for idiots.
i knew after that episode that those women weren't gonna change! they are mentally ill! if u have seen the episode they had ppl posin as doctors tellin them all kinds of risks and side effects from the "permanently light skin" thing and THEY DID NOT GIVE A FUKK! they wanted that shyt so bad!!! they didnt care what the doctor said all they said was "I WANT IT" it was so damn sad!!! i couldnt believe the measures and lengths that those women would go through 2 get light and they didnt even care what the risks were! it was jus tear droppin! but they are mentally ill and they really need help!
and @ children taking on the father's complexion
maybe i am rare form...but both of my parents are dark brown so that is definitely not it.
but ive noticed something...the bleaching creams arent working...if shes been doing it for a long time. WOW....she needs a prayer!!!
light skin does NOT equal an easier life.
@ Conscious1 Thanks. I like the sistas! But I think her kids are going to not like her as they get older. Chances are these kids are going to black schools and eventually, they may not believe what she is preaching as they get older. I know when those kids get a little older, they are going to start questing her. If their father is around, and if he is smart, he would take his kids. I bet someone in the family may give her a reality check. Most black folks are not into bleaching their skin. I think bleaching is a small problem in the black community and skin complexion is a little bit larger. I think it is the media that creates a lot of this stuff. The media has kind of made a lot of young black men think that it is cool to be a thug. A lot of black people are getting smarter and going to college now. U see dark and light skinned blacks marrying and having kids together all the time, so the color thing i feel is near dead, its the media showing only a certain type of black and people feel they need to look like that to be accepted. Color has its roots in slavery and american society.
HeresThaGotchaGotcha Flag post and @ children taking on the father's complexion
maybe i am rare form...but both of my parents are dark brown so that is definitely not it. ===================================== No, nothing is "definite". No rule is set in stone and that's why I noted, "From my experience".
And it is more likely the case you're rare since you didn't get any of their complexions than it is that my theory is, "definitely not it." It's "definitely not it" in YOUR case though, but seems to be the case in MsNikki's since she got more her father's tone just a tadbit lighter.
Again, DNA is a hell of a thing...
BTW---pretty picture.
After watching this show, I wanted to gather these women and rush them to the nearest psychiatrist. Their issues go deeper than just skin color. I think someone else eluded to this. The mother of the three boys stated that her mother bleached her skin when she was a child, so the cycle of dysfunction continues to her children. They don't realize that even if they changed their skin color, it won't solve the deeper issues that caused their self-hatred. They are still the same people. This is just a lesson for parents to instill in their child love and acceptance of who they are and how God made them regardless of what anyone else says. If you truly love yourself, you won't give a rats azz what anyone else thinks. Yes, there are tremendous pressures in this society and its messages to look a certain way, but we don't have to buy into them. Maybe we need to stop watching so much damn television, and if someone criticizes your skin color, hold your head up high and shake em b/c they, too, have been brainwashed. I feel sorry for those innocent babies. Unfortunately anyone can procreate even if they aren't fit parents.
MY MOTHER AND FATHER HAD 5 CHILDREN, MY MOM IS LIGHT SKINNED AND MY DAD IS BROWN SKINNED, AND I'M THE ONLY BROWN SKINNED CHILD THEY HAD. BUT MY SISTER, JUST 2 YEARS OLDER THAN ME, FROM FAR AWAY LOOKS WHITE, UNTIL YOU SEE HER HAIR UP CLOSE, TALK ABOUT AFRICAN HAIR, SANDY BROWN AT THAT. IT'S SOOOO THICK AND COURSE, JUST GOOD OLE AFRICAN HEALTHY HAIR, NOW THAT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT GENETICS. THE REST OF US HAVE HAIR LIKE MY MOM WHO HAS A HINDU HERITAGE....OH MY BROTHER HAS HAIR LIKE MY SISTER....ANYWAY, I WAS NEVER MADE TO FEEL LESS OF A PERSON DUE TO MY PARENTS, ESPECIALLY MY DAD. HE USED TO HAVE ME YELLIN' AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS "I AM SOMEBODY", SO WHEN PEOPLE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, AND SOME ADULTS, CALLED ME "BLACK", AT A YOUNG AGE I WOULD JUST SAY "I AM SOMEBODY" OR "I'M BLACK AN' I'M AN' PROUD". SO TO HEAR SOMETHIN' LIKE THIS JUST BLOWS MY MIND.
Tyra's show made me feel really bad for those women. Especially the one who told the story of how she was with a group of light skinned women and some men made a comment that they'd be straight if she wasn't with them. I just can't imagine what kind of a person you have to be to say something like that to a woman, it's so cruel.
I think as women we have to stop paying so much attention to the media and their obsession with celebrities, who most of them by the way look like shyt without makeup and photoshop.
I think many of these women were bleaching their skin not to feel better about themselves but to appear more attractive to men. I just feel that any man who is more concerned with a woman's appearance as opposed to what's in her heart, mind and spirit has some deep rooted insecurities of his own. These types of men will never make any woman a good partner because they don't even feel good about themselves.
@HeresThaGotchaGotcha
light skin doesn't equal an easier life for u when it comes 2 white ppl but 2 ppl of darker complexions is does...like u have it easier then darker ppl, i dont know why u or anyone else who disagrees doesnt understand that but its true. darker ppl have 2 work harder 2 get what they want, but light skin ppl dont have 2 work as hard...maybe u disagree but its true. its reality!
MTO is truly run by f^cking morons! That is not her priority to call police on a mother because she uses bleaching cream on her children! Give me a freaking break! Is that even against the law? That's like arresting someone for putting to much lotion on their child. Sure it's not good for them and they can grew up with issues but thats the mothers problem.
As the saying goes, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". Clearly, any black person who sees it necessary to bleach their skin and make other alterations to their bodies to be treated like "white folk" should get their heads examined. When these people perpetuate this ignorance through innocent children, that is reprehensible! Why should these kids suffer because of the insecurities of dumb adults? It isn't fair. Black children should be taught from an early age to be proud of how they look, not to feel ashamed as though being black is a terrible sin that will carry them to Hell. C'mon, people. We have an individual and a collective responsibility to raise kids right, and to eradicate this dumbass behavior.
TheBrokenSilence
The lotion analogy = apples and oranges. First, lotion moisturizes your skin. If it has Aloe/Vitamin D, it's very HELPFUL to skin maintenance. Bleaching cream, on the other hand, can burn your skin up and cause skin cancer. It's detrimental to the skin.
Messed up children are everyone's concern. Let me give you an example:
I am over here raising my kids to respect others, being the best mom I can be. I raise a well-rounded child who is about to graduate and go to college.
You are over there beating, abusing (mentally or physically) your children to where they grow with hatred in their hearts and access to deadly weapons.
Your unruly, monstrous, psychologically messed up child with bad skin (looking like he's a leper) so much so that no one wants to touch him comes in contact with my content, sweet being. Rage takes over and he kills my child. Mine never got to see College...
I think incompetent parents, single parent homes, and lack of respect & love from their own men is why black women have such low self-esteem. Luckily for me, I do not feel this way. And I see no reason to waste my time on people who are so negative. Which is why I have opened up my options. Black men are not the only men in the world. Why stay where you are not wanted? This is directed to SOME, but not all.
i cried, i cried hard when i watched this show. my feelings were raw. jus made me think about how messed up alot of us are. our family life messed up, our young boys killin each other, we buy jimmy choos and rims before we buy a house, and the self hate is the worst....
but yeah they slap that white cream on their face to be light but what about slappin that white cream on our hair to make it straight? is that any better? i do it faithfully every 6wks. no sir dont wont no nap on this head (in slave voice)
what do yall expect her to do? if its not a crime- she cant do anything except trying to talk to them Thats like- OVERWEIGHT kids- as much as I hate to see that- you cant call the cops on the parents even though you should. Which i could never understand. You can go to jail if your starving your child to death- for neglect but not if your feeding them to death.- which is abuse and LACK OF PARENTING SKILLS.. GRRRR what about parents- who allow their children to have their pants sag w/ no belt looking like little bums,watch innapproriate videos and shows, curse at and around adults, do whatever they want...ALL OF THIS IS WRONG- but THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT- except shake your damn head. I just feel sorry for these children and the physocological issues that are already developing in them.. Shaking my head....
7lady- I agree w/ you 100 percent. Black women- get weaves- for longer hair- Perms- for straighter hair- implants- for larger breast- fake nails..fake eyes....etc.... What is the difference from bleaching your skin- except maybe its not as common..
White women- get tans or put on tanning lotion- to make themselves darker- lip injections to have bigger lips- booty implants- to have a larger azz..etc Its just backwards but hey- its the times we live in...
@Dre7Guevara
micheal jackson has a skin disorder. his problem was having to deal with part of his skin turning white unitil ultimately all his skin is white. MJ did not cause this but people want to blame him for it...in other words willie lynch syndrome
@mommahips
your parents had you in a good direction. Tyra shoulda put women like you and myself up to show that there are dark women that ARE beautiful...i'm liking your comments, you got your mind right
@mskiki
in some cases it can be harder being darker, but i've never experienced it. i've even been told by light skinned girls that it's easier being me. what you go though many of the times is partly bout about by ones self. i personally don't feel its that much harder, but that's only because i've never experienced that myself.
@WillYouMaryMe
i agree with you fully. the lack of parenting can cause damage that, as seen in this show, will lead to these children having some identitiy issues. but there are black men that want us, but it's still ok to keep options open because the ability to be a good man is not tied to his race
(hope everybody has a good weekend)
she didn't exploit them, how is she getting ratings because people come on her show with their messed up lives and she thinks she going to turn around and send these people to jail, and bleaching cream is legal, the mother that used it had a messed up perception of why she should use it but at the end of the day tyra can't send her to jail
MTO, your job is to give us the news, real or fake, and NOT your lame ass opinion.
When did the topic of her calling the police ever come up in that interview? And, bleaching your, or your childrens skin is not illegal. Would you call the police on a Mom who puts a perm in her young daughters hair? That sh!t does all kinds of damage.
mskiki MANSEMINOLE
yea i feel u on the father thing...my mother nor my father is light skin...my mom is bout megan goods complexion and my dad is like ne-yos complexion and i got my fathers complexion is except a tad bit lighter...im gabrielle unions complexion...so i agree w/that comment --------------- *143 Game* -------------------------------------------------
My mother is light brown and my father is caramel, he was light brown when I was younger. Now, my sister came out a lighter brown than my mother, she was like beyonce color when we were little, My brother is a dark medium browm, my sister is like a dark medium reddish brown, and Im brown skinned, like a dark medium carmel brown, lighter than dark brown. My color changes. I use to be light brown or caramel when I was little, but I got browner as I got older. Its like black people change colors sometimes as they age. My sister who is the darkest never got picked on, she was pretty with long hair, my lighter skinned sister got chased after guys a lot. Non of us came out our parents complexion, just different shades of brown. Im like my father tone but a little darker.
That mother on that show out to be ashamed of herself and she does need more than therapy, she needs medication for hating her children's complexion and her own as well. How in the world are you going to teach your sons to bleach their skin. That's f'n child abuse right there. Dark skin is beautiful. I feel offended even though I am light skinned. My maternal grandmother is brown skinned and my great-aunt and late other great aunt are two beautiful chocolate women and my paternal grandfather is a handsome dark chocolate man. Dark skinned is beautiful folks, and I have dated a handsome dark chocolate guy as well. We all have to love ourselves. I do agree with y'all that it is not Tyra's responsibility to call authorities but what if she wants to help out though. The thing that is beautiful about us blacks and biracials is that we all come in all shades. We blacks got to love ourselves! Everyone do me a favor love yourselves. It is good to see that most bloggers on this site are. Like my momma always said who is going to love you if you don't love yourself?
it must not be against the law i think you have to get it from a dermatologist but maybe she doesn't say it's for her kids i don't think you can take a kid to a tanning bed using self tanners on them wouldn't hurt them but it's seems stupid to me probably those pagent moms do that sh*t but the mother shouldn't do that to her kids it has to hurt their self-esteem if she does it wrong she could burn them or would if they get it in their eyes she needs counseling in a real way
ok.. since everybody on both sides of the proverbial color spectrum (both dark skinned and light skinned folk)have added their 3 and a half cents...
DOES ANYONE REALLY HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THIS NEVER ENDING SLAVERY ASS MENTALITY OF SHADISM THATS SO DEEPLY INTERTWINED IN OUR CULTURE?
That query goes out 2 ALL People of COLOR.. not just Black FOLK either..
Yes U TOO.. INDIANS, ASIANS AND LATINOS
cause U guys are suffering from the same ills. WHITEY done got ur mind warped 2!
Hey.. NEWSFLASH..U GOTTA LOVE URSELF REGARDLESS WHAT COLOR U SKIN IS.. u dont love urself,nobody will love U!
U GOT some females dont like light skinned females for how they look.. or u got people being called ugly or monkey cause their dark.. and they dont know a damm thing about the person. dont judge people by their color or long or short their hair is.. thats effin ridiculous
that show took us as people back 500 years..whats sad was their desperation 2 b lighter! WTF? if u notice the lil brown (He was a cutie 2) son that was getting bleached looked like he was scared 2 say that he didnt like the bleaching. cause he was darker than the other 2, the mom made him feel inadequate. she said that he gets more cream applied 2 his skin.. the mom seemed a lil off 2 me.. thats just my perception. what a dumb bitch. u got people who cant make kids or kids that are born with childhood terminal illness or with mental disbilities and the dumb ass is worried about him being dark.. 4 that she needs her ass whooped 4 that!
The same force motivating these darker skin women to bleach their skin also motivates black women to put dangerous chemicals in their daughter's hair. The media and our interactions with one another makes us ashamed of the essence of who we are. You'll hear, "Your hair so nappy, your so black" Other races dont have this problem. It's sad and nothing new. Black people still suffer from the vestiges of slavery but we are too ashamed to admit it publicly.
these women are not to entirely to blame. When you tell someone "you're so black" "you're so dark" "you're pretty to be dark skinned" your to blame. The Koreans who sell "Fair and White" "Bright Day" bleaching cream in urban neighborhoods alone are to blame. The media, that only represents fair skinned women thus making dark skinned women insecure about their beauty is to blame. Colorism is not a Blk problem alone. I traveled to Asia and the Middle East. PPl bleach their skin for the exact same reasons. We need to stop putting all the blame on the women, society is to blame for this. We didnt blame the young girls who became anorexic and bulemic during the 90's, we put the blame on the modelling industry and beauty standards set by society.
All these women need to do something which is called soul searching, because obviously deep down inside they hate themselves for who they are when they fail to realize that God created them, and that's the reason why we have hatred within black people because it's still a light skin and dark skin issue with us some people need to grow up for real, and love themselves for who they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly..I hear all you black people doing exactly what WE as blacmk people do..You are pointing fingers only in our direction. BLack people are not the only ones who have this issue.. Also when white people TAn do you hear them talking about WHITE IS BEAUTIFUL... It's easy to point at each other and say.."oh your stupid" but why don't we love on each other and tell one another how beautiful we are instead of making these people feel worse.
