: Beyonce has been looking for an role to set herself up as a legitimate actress - and she may just have landed it. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that the platinum selling singer is VERY CLOSE to signing on to play the title character in Disney's big budget remake of the movie AIDA.
Official word is set to be coming down any day now. Congrats to BEY!!!
Thats cool and all but why cain't our celebrities play major roles in the cartoon/disney like features. Why can't people like Beyonce, Gabriel Union, Synia Lathan etc. play big roles like snow white or cinderalla or some [EXPLETIVE] like that man. The only thing that came close was Halley Berry playing Catwoman and that was after she banged Billy Bob Thorton in that one movie with puff. Just my personal opinion tho.
What is wrong with Beyonce getting the role in Aida? Some of you haters are really burning inside due to your hate. Beyonce is an entertainer and if she chooses to make her living, singing, dancing, acting that is her right. Don't hate because she can do it. Apparently someone thought her talented enough and approached her. No mystery in that. And, she has become famous due to some of y'all out there hating on her. Buying her CD's watching her videos, etc. so stop fronting! Why hate on her God gifted talent? I still say go on Beyonce with your bad self!
I am The Sofistikatedlade
im sorry- I love you Bey BUT YOU CANNOT ACT FOR SHYT Its okay- not to be able to do everything hon.. Stick to singing- and shaking your booty... NOw you have a husband- Im sure your make a great wife now..... The acting- LEAVE IT FOR THE ACTRESSES!! I hope she doesnt mess this up- like every other film she tries to do... She needs ALOT OF METHOD ACTING TRAINING. Ill train you if you need me to
Why is everyone congratulating Beyonce on possibly getting the lead role in Aida, a performance movie, meaning singing is involved; That is not acting, she is basically playing herself, that's not busting her acting chops; An ACTOR is someone who can play any type of character, and Bey ain't it; Can she please try to aim for something that does not involve singing please; if you check out her acting resumè nearly all her films she is singing, DANG! She needs to speak to Jennifer Hudson
Now of all the film projects she has lined up, I actually think Beyonce can do very well in Disney's Aida film. I saw it years ago when I was 13 on Broadway, and Toni Braxton tore the house up when she was Aida. The songs are great, the story is deep (like an Egyptian version of Romeo & Juliet), and if it's Disney, you know they are going to put hella money into it.
Go ahead Bey, just stay in your lane. THE GODS LOVE NUBIA!!!! lol
TreasureT @ Robo-Ho...I feel where you coming from....But trust me...this is one the last mofos on Earth that will kill herself!
"I know I'm rich and beautiful. I know my man is rich and...RICH...But I just cant take all the broke bitches on MTO hatin on me...I think I'll kill myself"......
NOT LIKELY
^^^LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
*dead*
Xquizit, I don't know about Jennifer Hudson, either... People responded positively to her character/performance in Dreamgirls because they believed her to have fulfilled that role...a role we all know MEANT BASICALLY PLAYING HERSELF! (Beyonce pointed that out in an interview, that people "gravitated toward" a "stereotypical black woman" and not a "classy and understated" Dina...by the way and I totally agree with her yet it doesn't explain why she herself went on to accept a role a stereotypical overweight drug-addled black woman). I just think great actresses (whether trained or blessed with some natural ability/affinity for the art) should be given the roles they deserve and not these pop culture cash cows who cheapen the scripts/final product... but then again the scripts are often re-written/diluted/perverted so that they're narrowly tailored toward the idiots who actually buy into the machine.
@ RAthaGreat What or who the heck is AIDA
Aida is a musical drama in two acts based on Giuseppe Verdi's Italian-language opera by the same name, which is based on a story by Auguste Mariette which is based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The musical was produced by Hyperion Theatricals, a unit within Disney Theatrical, with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang.
Elaborate Lives: The Legend of Aida had its world premiere at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia with the production running from September 16 to November 8, 1998. A new, revised production opened on November 12, 1999 at the Cadillac Palace in Chicago. The Broadway production, titled Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, ran at the Palace Theatre from March 23, 2000 to September 4, 2004 for a total of 1,852 performances (and 30 previews). There was also produced a national tour and several international productions. Aida has recently become popular among school and community theaters. Licensing of these amateur productions of Aida is through Music Theatre International. Heather Headley originated the role on broadway =0)
Ghetto Disney at its finest!!!
Watching B in a movie where she isn't singing is like listening to fingernails scraping a chalkboard.
Okay, for the bamas that want to hype Kelly playing Aida on stage....clearly she must not have been good because the general public was either uninformed, or not impressed.
Trejaz Flag post First commenting on the website. But I can tell u this Deborah Cox did the best version of Aida hands down. So Beyonce better prove to me she deserves this role. Real Talk! ----------------------------------------------
Thats for damn straight!!! lolol
I doubt Beyonce could do it as magnificently as Deborah Cox did!
@BklynRogue You are absolutely correct! I saw Aida on Broadway with Toni Braxton...Toni did a stella performance. She had critics going crazy over her performance, this made tickets sell out for months...then Toni got pregnant, Michelle took over and her performance wasn't all that great. It was Ok, but not Toni. I saw both of them and I like Toni A LOT better! I don't know how Beyonce will do but she will have to lose weight and take some acting classes. Aida was a very small and petite egyptian. The story is very much like Romeo and Juliet. If I was her I would have passed on this...This movie should have starred Toni Braxton...I can't see anyone else playing the part. Just my opinion. I like Bey but the role doesn't suit her.
I'm not one of the ones on here who loves to hate Bey but her and many other unproven recording artist getting acting roles is foolishness. Many proven black actresses are sitting at home right now or starring in music videos due to the lack of work. I can't knock the hustle but it does seem a bit unfair...
JaeCe, where have you been? Sam Jackson addressed this several years ago and was called everything under the sun...He was mostly talking about rappers, but I'm sure he meant them all in the music industry...
And alot of the black women in the acting world today don't show any versatility...As much as I love the Gabbys, Nia's, Sanaa's, it's kind of their own fault...Everyone wants to look pretty and sassy and scared to step outside of the box...
The reason why Halle has gotten so big is not strictly because of her looks...It was because she was willing to take risks and didn't take no for an answer(that Flinstone role was meant to be played by a White woman but Halle wasn't having it)...There were roles she would go several days without bathing for...plus she always did different things with her hair...and the short cut helped her too...Halle isn't even the best actress, but she is/was the most dedicated one...
Jada slowed down to become a mother...
We don't have too many of the Alfre Woodards, Angela Bassetts, Whoopis, or Lynn Whitfields anymore so now that Hollywood has become a bit more opened, it is still hard to choose because of the lack of range ... If Keke Palmer can keep working hard and keep her shoulders on straight, she will definitely take the acting world by storm...I love that girl...
Oh and @ topic, of course Bey isn't the best actress but as long as the offer is there, she'd be a fool not to take it...All the naysayers can send their own auditioning tape in if they think they could do better...And I mean that...Too many of us want to settle for the "easy" money by doing videos or whatever...Why don't you take a real challenge?
Once I finish my degree in science, I will start back working with my private acting coach and take on these challenges...
@Shape_Shifter: Heather Headley played Aida in the broadway play in which she won a Tony. And Michelle Williams, Toni Braxton, and Deborah Cox as well.
I'm a fan of Beyonce, a very talented entertainer who gives a great stage performance. But the acting isn't there. Maybe the movie Obsessed would prove something different. I'm glad it has nothing to do with her being a singer as her other movie roles has.
I won' t go see it :) Pooor language poor acting skills where does aida lives brooklyn? a ghetto disney channel character? i don' t think so!
Antidumb: I' m with you manny: she learned not to [EXPLETIVE] with alliyah' s fans they will eat her and her little crazy weak name calling ignorant stans up in a minute!
Good for her. I'm so glad she and Jennifer Hudson are getting parts in Hollywood.
Whether you see it or not, you should at least be glad she's being employed in Hollywood. How many complaints do we hear about blacks not getting any jobs in Hollywood?
Jennifer Hudson's career has only gone up since Dream Girls. I saw her on The View and her new cd is going to be great.
I'm going to need them to get Heather Headley for this role.. when I saw Aida she was the lead and she RIPPED it... I was in the audience CRYING... please note that her voice on broadway vs. what she puts out as a "mainstream" artist is completely different... her broadway voice is THE. TRUTH. Love Bey and she's trying... she really is, but Heather can sing AND act.. think about it...
