: CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities investigating the shooting deaths of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were searching for the missing 7-year-old nephew of the Oscar-winning actress.
A suspect in the deaths was in custody Friday night, but young Julian King had not been seen since the bodies of Darnell Donerson, 57, and Jason Hudson, 29, were found Friday afternoon.
A family member entering Donerson's South Side home Friday afternoon found the woman shot on the living room floor. Responding officers later found Hanson shot in the bedroom, police said.
At least one of the victims suffered defensive wounds, said authorities who described the shooting as domestic violence.
William Balfour, a man suspected in the deaths, was arrested Friday but had not been charged, law enforcement sources told the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said investigators were talking to "a number of people in custody" but she declined to elaborate. An Amber Alert issued Friday said Balfour was a suspect in the double homicide.
Records from the Illinois Department of Corrections show Balfour, 27, is on parole and spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle. Public records show one of Balfour's addresses as the home where Donerson and Jason Hudson were shot.
The Cook County medical examiner's office said autopsies for Donerson and Jason Hudson were pending.
Balfour's mother, Michelle, said her son had been married to Hudson's sister, Julia, for several years, but they were separated. She also said Donerson had ordered him to move out of the family's home last winter.
Jennifer Hudson's personal publicist, Lisa Kasteler, said the family wanted privacy.
The tragedy comes as Hudson, who grew up in Chicago, continues to reach new heights in her career. Her song "Spotlight" is No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her recently released, self-tiled debut album has been a top seller. She was featured in this year's blockbuster "Sex and the City" movie and is also starring in the hit film "The Secret Life of Bees."
She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls." In an interview last year with Vogue, Hudson credited her mother with encouraging her to audition for "American Idol," which launched her career.
The singer, whose father died when she was a teenager, described herself as very close to her family. In a recent AP interview she said her family, which includes older siblings Julia and Jason, helped keep her grounded.
"My faith in God and my family, they're very realistic and very normal, they're not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago that's just another place that's home," she said. "I stand in line with everybody else, or, when I go home to my mom I'm just Jennifer, (so she says), 'You get up and you take care of your own stuff.' And I love that; I don't like when people tell you everything you want to hear, I want to hear the truth, you know what I mean."
Hudson recently announced her engagement to David Otunga, best known for his stint on VH1's reality show "I Love New York."
Hudson's representatives would not disclose her whereabouts Friday. She had been scheduled to appear Monday in Los Angeles to collect an ensemble cast honor at the Hollywood Awards for "The Secret Life of Bees" with co-stars including Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning.
I don't know what people keep doin this DUMB [EXPLETIVE]. He's just one of them people who can't stand to see others happy. I saw his myspace page on another site and I went to it and he has his mood listed as "forgotten"...But Tee Emm Zee hinted it's over a car. Some car he stole that led to Jennifer's sister leaving some message on her page about him "selling" her car. I don't know. It's all so crazy. This is my thing - Is he refusing to tell where the child is OR is he just insisting that he's innocent? The reports are a bit misleading. It could be that the police believe he's done it and are asking him where the child is knowing it would mean a confession and he's simply saying "I'm innocent." That would cast him in another light...it would cast the whole situation in another light. But I think the child is okay..if he were going to harm the child he could have shot him and left him with the others. I think he killed who he wanted to kill...

OK excuse me but to all of you who do not live in Chicago, her mother's neighborhood is NOT the ghetto. Furthermore, her mother did not want to move, so she couldn't make her uproot her life because she was famous. Jennifer's mother was down to earth, unlike so many celebrity parents. This is a woman whose church, family and community were important to her, not a mansion in Beverly Hills. Her mother declined to be on the Oprah Winfrey show, simply because she "wasn't into all of that." So, how about we focus on the fact that a seven year old boy is missing and pray he is found safe and sound.

Some of you have spoken on her family being moved. Don't you guys realize trouble will find you if you are in it? Dude was already married into the family. He listed her mom's address as his residence just last year. I'm going to assume he would have been welcomed wherever his wife was. I used to work for Myspace and we would always cooperate with the authorities in serious crimes. The person who logged on could've been someone at myspace assisting the investigation or the police dept. lookin for information. WE SHOULD BE MORE CONCERN WITH FINDING THIS BABY BEFORE IT IS TO LATE.
Additionally, I would like to add in agreement with real101 - Fame and Fortune are twins that donot always run the race together. Jennifer's name is out there - but the truth is, her money has not started coming in yet. She has a little something, but not enough to cover the cost of paying for all her family. Also, you have to consider that her mother may NOT have wanted to move. It's her home. She should not have had to move from her friends and family just because her daughter has recognition. I am sure in time, she might have, if that was her and Jennifer's choice.
The fact of the matter is, we are living in a world that is consumed with death and hatred. Old satan is wrecking havoc and much as he can because he knows his time is winding up. We cannot continue with the world moving like it is. Just reading some of the messages here, makes me know how much the ministry of witnessing is necessary. I'm not trying to thump the bible at anyone, but I am a believer and I know that the first thing we want to do is "stone someone for the wrong deeds they do", but my question is this: Did anyone in his family or community ever talk to him about JESUS? Was he ever given a chance to see and know a new life? A beautiful life without the desire to hurt someone? If he is the culprit - either he is going to find Jesus in the pen, or someone will kill him. I hope and pray that in spite of the crime he may have committed, that someone will introduce him to a man called Jesus. A man who gave his life so that we would have a right to eternal life. Jennifer Hudson's sister is safe and with the family and has been since she received the call about her mother and brother. She was not the family member that found them, it was a cousin that lives near them. I actually don't live too far from where this happened but I have never met or know any of the Hudsons. From what I can tell their family was loved by their community and church. Neighbors have spoken about how her brother never let Jennifer's fame change him and how they remained the same people even after she won the Oscar. As a matter of fact she would visit here quite often and stay at her mother's home which is right smack in the middle of one of Chicago's most notorious neighborhoods for gang and drug activity. If you didn't have respect for Jennifer before you have to give the girl props because she is a true Chicagoan. It's just so terrible this had to happen.
As of now the police are still searching for little Julian and there are Amber Alert postings everywhere. They have not found the Suburban that they suspect the step-father stole and kidnapped him in.(which belonged to Jennifer's brother). Unfortunately,, he is not being cooperative as far as the whereabouts of the child and his mother says he told her he has nothing to do with any of this. Let's all pray that this part of the story ends well for Julia Hudson because I can only imagine the grief and frustration of not knowing where your child is.

Maybe tyhe lil boy was so distraught and ran away to hide (maybe he saw the tradgedy unfolding), and isnt trying to come out (I hope and wish thats all it is). But the statistics show that there is a real necessity and urgency to find the kid within the first (I believe) 24 hours or so , because after that, they are usually found deceased.

It's crazy, cuz according to the story MTO posts, the suspects mother said Julia & Jennifer's mom had kicked him out of the house last year:

There's been a lot of people talking about the neighborhood the family lived in. I read that Jennifer had pleaded with her family to move but they refused and wanted to remain a 'normal' family. The didn't want the fame and fortune to change them. Every city has a 'danger zone' and crime can happen even in the nicest of neighborhoods.

and this has nothing to do with race or economic status. domestic violence is real in every culture. women of all races and economic backgrounds have chosen men who were no good for them. men who beat them, berate them, rape them and wreak havoc on their lives. it has to do with insecurity, lack of self worth and lack of guidance. families can become enablers in these situations. I know the mom kicked this criminals ass out of the house a year ago, but what was a convicted criminal doing living in her home in the first place? around her grandson? around her family? up until a year ago? Im not blaming anyone at all, Im just pointing out that families cant just let things slide and turn the other cheek. they cant just get involved when things get really bad. you have to come together as a family and plan a way to handle something like this. some mothers say they dont want to get involved in their childrens marriages or business but certain siutations call for serious intervention! I can bet anything that this dude threatened them the days leading to this event. he didnt just chill in the cut and then bust into their home all of a sudden and kill them. this is something thats been brewing for a long time. please dont ignore the next time your child gets slapped or yelled at by their partner. you could be saving their lives and your own life if you get involved and think of a way to deal with this together

If J-hud's mother lived there for 30 years & had friends & church there & felt comfortable, then what was her daughter to do? She couldn't FORCE her 57 yr old mother to move! It is now being reported that William Balfour is a childhood friend of the Hudson children which means THE ENTIRE FAMILY knew of his criminal activities and background. Her sister knew who and what she was in store for when she married this cat fresh out of prison. Albeit, he is not the missing child's father this couple has a long history together and in the Chi we know who is doing what, when they did it, when they got picked up and when they're getting out of jail if it involves someone from your hood. I'm sure it's the same everywhere. DrDoom has done nothing but share the truth. I have heard countless stories of young women with children that hook up with these thugs only to end up having that thug kill one of her children (mostly infants and toddlers they can't handle) or their children end up injured or dead due to being caught in some drug/gang activity of which they had nothing to do with.
I am not placing any type of blame here because this is a tragic situation and it could have happened with a man that gets his 9 to 5 on with a college degree. But, as someone said before "you can't turn a hoodlum into husband". With an attempted murder wrap which he served time for Julia Hudson should have used better judgement when she decided to expose her family directly to this man. If he didn't do it himself there is a huge likelyhood that someone may have done it retaliating against him. Either way he is guilty for ruining this child's future.

Listen, I have actually respected some of the things you've had to say in the forums and I don't want to resort to us doing the two step back and forth over something that does not affect either of us. Hmmm, Maybe I can see her logging into Myspace, perhaps to read words of consolation from her friends, maybe to even create a sort of memorial out of the page which includes pics and words from her heart. I went through the almost death of my mother last summer (thank god she pulled through)and after coming home from long nights at the ICU unit, I sat alone at night I would log in to get my friends kind words, and I updated my page with old pics of my mom with the fam, as a type of self-consolation and to help me grieve, so I can at least give her that.
However... If you know people will be all up in your page, and it is in "public" view, and considering what has happened, wouldnt any person update and edit their page and remove any vulgar or tasteless or questionable things you have posted on your page that all can see? If not suspicious of her, it is at least a bit tacky.
APR......our local news has reported that the FBI thinks the child may have been taken across state lines due to the time that has lapsed since his disappearance. Usually, the Feds don't get involved in missing persons cases until there is a suspicion that state lines have been crossed. In my opinion (not assumption) I honestly believe the news does not want to say they believethe child is dead. it has been more than 24 houirs and if we're all fans of The First 48 then you know how critical it is to have some kind of lead on this child's whereabouts.
the problem is that we are getting no new information so people are forced to start speculating and thinking the worst. A crime like this is so baffling, people want to know what the hell is going on and why this happened. I guess the police dont want to release any information until they have more evidence. I just checked CNN and there have been no new developments. This dudes mother swears her son had nothing to do with the killings. shes on the news pleading for the kidnappers to return Julian. she must know that her son is no good but shes doing what any mother would do in this situation, shes having faith that her son isnt a horrible beast and shes defending him. in her heart of hearts she must know that he was probably involved somehow but many parents and family members go into denial mode when things like this happen. if he didnt do it, he got some of his hoodlum friends to do it. its hard for me to believe that he had absolutely nothing to do with this. and its not just because of his criminal record, its because of his record of domestic violence against the sister. If anyone in Chicago hears of anything new please post. I have a feeling its probably getting more news coverage over there.

I barely heard anything about the Hudson family. one thing I have to say, and I HATE to take it there, is that when things like this happen to white children, the white people get very active and involved within their communities and even across the nation. they start putting up posters, making calls, starting search parties, donating money for a reward fund. Chicago Public School students were out of school on Friday for some kind of "teacher institute day".......I'm still not seeing any involvement on her part though. Initially, I believe she was in protective custody which is why everyone assumed she was missing also. After all, her estranged husband was considered armed and dangerous and they figured her life could be in danger too until they found him.

you make a valid point, as well as some other theories on here. But that's just it, they're all theories and speculations at this point. So that's why I, and a very few others on here, have said that we shouldn't be so quick to judge and execute another black man like THEY do us all the time. Most of you on here are ready to bury the Brother under the jail, but Chicago PD hasn't even CHARGED him yet (meaning they don't have sufficient evidence). But I do have a feeling alot of what we're speculating will come to light as true, but I feel its irresponsible to form these kind of opinions and speak so confidently on it with so little information, especially when dealing with the lives of other human beings.
I have inside info.... Earlier today one of the homicide detectives confirmed that they have a subpoena for the myspace profile info. Including messages and everything else. It is for William obviously because he hasn't logged in since June. It was already brought to the officer's attention of her logging on. That is another reason William hasn't been charged. An to answer any extra questions about the myspace stuff I know because I used to work for Myspace and they have access to everything all of your messages everything your IP address. So I can bet bottom dollar that she had something to do with all of this.
Wow. More information seems to be emerging, however unconfirmed. Still, the possibility that Julian was harmed the day before by someone known could account for Julia's lack of tears at the press conference or whatever that was.
And, another thing that stands out, is the update of Julia's MYSPACE mood as sexxy09 emphasized. Who would give a [EXPLETIVE] about a mood update entry when MOTHER, BROTHER & possibly SON is at minimum, missing & possibly deceased?
Could investigators have wanted to make things appear more authentic by addressing & updating the mood status in the wake of the murders as new friends were accepted? Hmmmm.

By "not talking" the police can very well mean NOT CONFESSING. That makes them mad because they will actually have to do real police work and figure this thing out. But the brother might "not be talking" because he doesn't know anything. Or maybe he does and has the whole "don't snitch" mentality that has been misintepreted and abused in our community. But it doesn't necessarily mean guilt. I just watched Julia's whole press conference and her story of that night when they returned home from her b-day dinner seemed a little disjointed. She stumbled and her speech was at a different speed than at other times in the press conference. She was being VERY careful of what she said. The only other people to see the boy last besides her are dead. I guarantee you she is a person of interest to the investigation right now but Chicago PD are not gonna announce that in hopes she will slip up if she is involved. No signs of struggle at the house, but police are saying it was domestic fighting based on defensive wounds on one of the victims. She's the last one known to have entered or left the house other than the cousin who found the mom dead. I'mma stop b4 I get that judging spirit, but it don't look good right now.

His participation in what got him 7 years could have been as simple as you suggested or as deadly as shooting, stabbing or blunt trauma to his victim. I don't know for certain. Nonetheless, his victim fortunately, survived.
However, Balfour's previous felony conviction should NOT be overlooked simply because the victim didn't die & Julia Hudson appears to be more complicit in the murders & disappearance of her boy.

she said one of her friends said to Julian when he was complainig he wanted to go home to be with his grandmother, (paraphrasing) "thats your mom, let her enjoy her birthday, she does all she can for on yor birthday." Why would you add that? was that relevant in this press conference? that must've really affected her for that part to stand out in her mind right now where she feels a need to divulge it in a press conference about a plea for his return.
She probably got angry at him for not wanting to be with her,he loved his grandma like all kids do.But she was probably feeling rejected once again..and on her birthday to boot!...Maybe she snapped and hurt him and panicked. but my question is...why did it take 5 hours to.."FIND"...a man that was right down the street?...
I have often wondered why people reveal so much about themselves on MYSPACE of Facebook? As if these sites are not available to any & every web visiter who chooses to pop in? Just like now, Julia Hudson has titillating entries that she may NOW wish were NOT there for all to read regarding SEX, etc.
Then again, if she logged into her page & it appears that she did & updated & everything, she may just not 'give a damn'!

my thoughts exactly...she should've left that out of her press conference because it was irrelevent. but it just proves how much that seemingly small event that night affected her. She couldn't help but talk about it. All she had to say is we had dinner and went home. "He was bugging me, he kept bugging me" she says almost as if she's getting agitated just recalling it. something definitely seems shady.

WOOOOOW. If we know this I know Chicago PD knows and are exploring the same theories we are. Interesting how she said her mom was at the door waiting on them..sounds like an attempt to say someone else (the grandmother) saw Julian alive and that he was in her care after that point, so you can't say I harmed him cause he was still alive when i left him. Only problem is the person that can verify that is dead. I'm getting really upset over this..I need to chill.
After reading some of the latest posts, people are saying a lot of things I have only been thinking.
I am not going to say "yes, he did it or she had something to do with it" because I am on the outside looking in and I am sure the police have other information they are withholding from the public until it is thoroughly checked out.
But ever since I heard about these horrific crimes, there has been one thing that keeps popping up in my mind. WHY WAS THE CHILD TAKEN AND FOR WHAT REASON?
If and I say if, William did this and took Julian why would he not tell the police where he is. This does not make sense....or maybe he really does not know where the child is.....also,it never dawned on me that Julian could have been taken the night before.
William stole and sold Julia's car. Why? IMO, he must have owed someone a large amount of money. Could all this have something to do with owing money for drugs?
I also, saw Julia on TV at the press conference. She was doing a lot of sniffing, but I did not see any tears, which could mean nothing....after all she did say she was in shock.
I honestly hope she had nothing to do with this and pray her son gets home safely.

Everyone knew Jennifer's people lived there. Maybe it could have been a home invasion gone bad after finding people at home and they took the child after killing the mom and brother hoping to get a payoff from Jennifer. This could be something the police might be keeping quiet about for now.
I know it sounds crazy, but I can't keep from thinking about the kid being missing and what reason they would have to take him.

I think the son witnessed the killings so he's going to be held possibly so that the "ATTEMPTED MURDERER" can get a lighter sentence or some bullshi*. He probably didn't want to kill the child.
