And even IF...IF...this article has any truth in it....there is something called self censorship. And I know self censorship exists in the media because I saw it happen with the news outlets right after 9/11 in regards to a particular photo. The media deemed that it was too offensive so they never ran the photo in their papers again.

Someone even made the comment: “Let’s not totally discredit the National Enquirer. They are the ones who broke the story about Brad and Angelina and that turned out to the true.”
So let me get this straight. It is totally believable that William Balfour made threats against Jennifer Hudson’s life and killed 3 members of her family just to get back at his estranged wife, all because some neighbor said so, but it is not believable that Julian, a little boys whose father is a drug dealer and reported gang member, his uncle was a drug dealer and a reported gang member, his mother was/is a drug dealer could have been a gang member?
Stranger things have happened. Look at the 8-year-old that allegedly shot and killed his father and another man.
I know many of us are still hurting by the tragic death of this little boy as well as his grandmother and his uncle but all options have to be weighed.
Julian was not a stranger to the “thug life.” Those hand gesturers can be interpreted as gang signs. If the wrong person saw him doing that it could have been the cause of his dimise. It doesn't make it right but it is a harsh reality especially in the neighborhood this family lived in.

It is a reality in the city I was born and raised in as well. Young children are recruited all the time to be lookouts, mules, runners, etc. The idea is that the police will not suspect a child. The child may or may not have a full understanding of what they are doing. All they know is they have a little extra money in their pocket. If the child is from a low income family and the mother is struggling, she may look the other way just to have that extra money coming in.
I'm not sure what gang signs look like or the spider man signs look like - so I won't speculate on the child. He is still a child and innocent and didn't deserve what happened to him. As someone said, though, you may talk about the National Enquirer, but they've actually broke several stories the main stream media chose to ignore. The Chandra Levy body in the park. The Jesse Jackson baby & recently that Politician who had a baby by another woman while married. NO ONE else had that story and after they broke it – the main stream media talked about them like a dog. They were saying how low and sleazily they sunk to get it – but wouldn’t give them credit for getting the story. And it turned out to be some HOT NEWS for the main stream media after NE broke the story. So until they are proven wrong, which they very well might be, I’m not discrediting them yet. They have a clientele, too, who like to know people’s intimate business – just like MTO's clientele.

AFROGE I agree with you!! We need to raise out children to want to belong to the real family they belong to. Gangs are out there - stop allowing "children" to listen to Rap music thats not saying anything positive. Teach them to pick up a book and pull up there pants. Go through their school bags and walk in their rooms - be involved. Stop letting the streets raise our kids. Keep them busy with other activities so they dont have time to run in the streets.
