: TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian newspapers say a court has sentenced a man who blinded a woman with acid also to be blinded with acid under the country's Islamic law.
Thursday's reports in several newspapers, including the Kargozaran, say 27-year-old Majid confessed to attacking Ameneh Bahrami in 2004 to dissuade anyone from marrying the woman he loved.
Wednesday's ruling was issued based on the Islamic law system of "qisas," or eye for an eye retribution.
The reports say Ameneh asked the court to sentence Majid, who was only identified by his first name, to be blinded by acid to prevent similar attacks on other women.
Majid is allowed to appeal the verdict.
Damn, and he claimed he did that out of love? Some people's minds are so warped. Anything goes these days, it's just sad.
No sense of right and wrong, no moral compass, no gut feelings, no guilty conscience, nothing...........I'm so thankful I was born in The Bahamas, which is founded on Christian principles.
that is absolutely horrible! i feel for her...but at least justice was served by his sentence. they should implement those measures here in America...cause truly violent criminals in this nation are treated with too much dignity and kindness! life without parole, life with the possibility of parole in 25yrs, some years here and ability to get out for good behavior...all for crimes of rape, murder, and child molestation?! please! nobody who rapes a child should live...anybody who rapes/molests should be raped/molested in the same fashion...anybody who murders, without it being self defense and/or having no other choice, should be murdered in the same way. not allowed 3 square meals, a warm cot, recreational time, and educational opportunities as punishment...that's bullshyt!

You got black men James Earl (ring a bell) who back in 2004 (and other cases such as these) who were dragged to their deaths by pick-ups and nobody did anything about it.
We even got a black president, and although we made history, we STILL worry over a plotted assasination attempt on his life ONLY because of his SKIN COLOR.. With all this WEALTH in the United States, you would think we can do better. Alot of those middle eastern countries are poor, in bad shape, and got a corrupted government.

The cold war showed us a couple of things, when russia's economy was broken and it seperated into all of those nations, all those nuclear and biological weapons were sold on the black market but I like to call it the "white" market, so for all we know anybody can have those weapons now!
@Carttail33- I think so too. They need to make prison REALLY tough here on these criminals. Maybe they would think twice before committing crimes. I have middle eastern friends, and they tell me how LOW their crime rates are. They told me their criminals are lucky to eat a slice of bread over in their prisons.

I'm born and raised in the States too but I'd be so foolish (especially as a black person) to make comments such as "that never happens here" or "those people are foul over there". Hell the U.S is in control of most of the world's wealth. For centuries America and her cousin Europe been rapping people's countries, territories, and resources for their own political and economic gain.
Now these western countries want to demonize other non-threating poor countries such as Iran, Afganistan, Iraq, and Syria. Hell no these countries don't have the entire nuclear power to threaten the U.S. The States got a way of creating a scapegoat in EVERY political situation. The use the media as a "smoke screen" to justify the stealing they do.
Stories such as these always get people going and talking sideways about groups of people who ain't never done anything to you. I love this country but some people act as if States is the only land of Justice while other countries are barbaric idiots.. That's just not the case.

It happens in other parts of the world too but it seems to me you hear it more coming from that part of the world. Just by sentencing him shows that they're slowly letting go of their old ways. Women over there basically have or should I say HAD no rights or voice and its usually the word of a man against that of a woman's from what I understand. I don't wanna play on stereotypes but the more news I hear from that part of the world, the more I'm inclined to believe that the majority of the ppl over there are radicals and extemists, cold blooded, heartless excuses for human beings. They have no regard for human life whatsoever, let alone that of children. Walking into a crowd and killing a couple of hundred ppl (kids, old people, women) and killing themselves is nothing, like its the coolest thing to do. Don't get it twisted, or think i'm insensitive, cause dude definitely got the Womp Womp of the week right now. Its definitely horrible to hear and see how women are allowed to be viewed and treated in many place. But even in Islam, while the "eye for an eye" is certainly allowed, forgiveness or other forms of punishment are encouraged at the same time. Leniency doesn't mean "soft" either. Its up to the victim (i believe), so if that's what this poor victim wants, then... Womp-Womp dude.
The teachings I try to follow, those of Christ Jesus, instruct us to turn the other cheek. Or, "let go, let God". It might not be instant gratification, but knowin' God's got my back and will lay a heavenly whoopin' on dat (be-hind) is what I have faith in. Its not easy, having patience and faith in this, and it definitely goes against our society's teachings but its ultimately rewarding. And besides, we've already said our society's a lil' more than twisted anyway...
Again, my inticial reaction to this story was, "ha ha, sucka!", but then its like, okay, we blinded the dude back. Now what. That was a reactionary measure, but what about taking preventative action to rework the way people (both men and women) think about women's roles over there in the first place? ...His punishment, I guess, could be considered a step but as people've said, its been happening for centuries.
I see the level of a person's justice being adjusted rationally to the level of the person's knowledge of their wrongdoing. Y'know, like how do you punish a mentally ill person or someone raised by incorrectly by parents. It doesn't seem as if he felt he was doing anything cowardly at all at the time.
Now (this is a slight stretch), what about the people who couldn't wait to get those Black Friday deals and TRAMPLED that part-time WalMart employee after they impatiently broke down the door. A pregnant woman had to be taken to a hospital to be safe. Those involved and we all know, no deal is worth a man's life. So how should those shoppers be punished?
An eye for an eye would suggest death by gettin' stopmed out. Who's gonna step in line and volunteer to get their Timb's bloody?

It is funny how people say they are against revenge and don't believe in an eye for an eye but they are aching for William Balfour to be sentenced to death an executed despite the fact that he hasn't even been charged with a crime. This man admitted that he scarred this woman for life because she did not return his love. He was tried in court and the court has ruled on the matter. So let me get this straight, to blind this man would be "revenge" but to execute William Balfour would be "justice"? That sounds very hypocritical to me.
Clearly there has to be an adjustment in the way people are punished in this society. We are not above learning some things from Islamic cultures. The prison system is not discouraging people from commiting heinous crimes so maybe a system of physical punishments should be adopted. Avoidance of severe pain to the flesh is older than the first human being and will make most men and women think more than twice before harming another.
