Not a Tyler Perry fan but why do people always justify things with money? All sorts of despicable people have money, and I'm not saying Tyler is despicable, but does that justify their values? Morals? Actions? Apparently some of you will do anything for a buck because you have no integrity, pride or honor and naturally your role models don't either.
He is laughing all the way to the bank because he is getting paid for doing something he loves and people love when he does it.
He has a creative gift and he is using it to entertain and educate. Some of you may not see it that way, but it is what it is.
The beauty of it is, you don't have to go, you don't have to like him or what he does and you have the option to change the channel, not read his books or watch his movies. Simple as that!!
Yeah, I said it!!!!!
this is going to be hilarious ... I like the humor of Mr. Brown's character ... but there is nothing like Madea ... lol ... talk about him all you want ... this is going to do tremendous numbers in the box office ... I'm sure this and Notorious are going to be the highly grossed "black" films of this year ... easily
@Nakrencla
"Everybody" would not cross dress for money and since celeberities are your barometer in life just look to David Chappelle who went on Oprah and explained why he wouldn't wear a dress as black men are sometimes pressured to, expected to in movie roles. Of course the psychological degradation of black manhood in pop culture goes over your head but not everyone misses it. Also, I can only speak for myself. I simply don't enjoy Tyler's brand of humor. My preference is Chris Rock but that's personal. However, I only support black men who behave like MEN and if Tyler was famous for being a MAN I might support him too.
@TexasGlamourChic
And the point of my post went completely over YOUR head. I'm not surprised Tyler's biggest fans are black women either. There's a lot that can be said about that but I won't waste my time. It just amazes me how black women are forever crying about the shortage of good black men and "DL Brothers" but then for a few measley bucks will turn a blind eye to the problem or encourage the behavior by the type of men the find worthy of their attention. Just look at all the lil black boys dancing like Beyonce on Youtube while their black mothers record them and encourage them. Next you'll say where are the fathers but how would I know when the tricks probably don't know who he is much less where he is themselves. REAL women have a disdain for anything less than a REAL man. Some of you need to check yourself and play your position if you know how.
much props 2 Tyler Perry on his success, but I agree with the homie Nimrod, is this what we as Black men have 2 reduce ourselves 2? cross dressing, selling ourselves 4 the almighty dollar? also, Y is it that people can't voice their opinion about whoever without being labeled a hater? that rebuttal is past played out. We need 2 respect each other's opinions.
Cross-dressing and near-bufooneray aside, Tyler Perry is definitely one to look up to. Tyler did what he had to do, he put out the stereotypical crap to appease the rich jews in hollywood, and once they started seeing his movies were selling, they started financing ALL his projects. Then THATS when he started putting out the good stuff, Daddy's Little Girl, Why did I Get Married, etc. He's broken through barriers in Hollywood that kept most blacks out. Even Spike lee hasn't had his success. Because he didn't play the game!
The people who are calling him a disgrace are haters PERIOD. This man was living IN HIS CAR for christ sakes. He did what he had to do to make money and he does a damn good job at it. Besides that he is the only movie producer right now giving his fellow BLACK actors work right now. So at least he is sharing his wealth.
Let me ask you people a question. Would u rather live in your car or make millions?? Pick one!!
And besides that he makes black movies that are about our struggles and he gives examples of how we over come them. Yall are acting like he is parading around in a dress and living up to the stereotypes that other races think about us. Yes, Madea is a crazy character but if u pay attention to the movies, she always is in teaching mode. Teaching the other characters how to have some morals and values not promoting BS like some of the other movies do. SMDH at you people. A successful black person can't do shyt without somebody tryin to bring them down.
This site is too much. You have the supporters and then you have the haters. But what usually kills me about the hater, when it comes to black men they are ready to start a riff on here. They are the same one with avatar that represent exactly what there are upset about. Hmmm or the hide behind no picture. They act like "oh hollywood is the one that make black men dress in female clothing. Tyler is self made. From the beginning he was on his on. The plays that he made they told "no no no youcant do that". And he did it. They told him "no no no we arent going to give you TV time unless you change some things" And he did it without them with his own damn money. So if the character that HE made up in his head wheres a dress then so be it. ITS HIS. People keep forgetting that "Self Made" not hollywood made.
When he jumps in that Madea outfit, I don't see a man, I see Madea. She's the type of grandmother they don't make anymore. She doesn't bite her tongue and gives you loving advice. If playing Madea is wrong for Tyler, I don't want him to be right. Don't judge the man; he's an actor. Check out his spoof of black movies on YouTube. He plays Ike/Tina Turner in What's Love Got To Do With It, Celie/Sophia in The Color Purple, and Loretta Devine/Gregory Hines in Waiting to Exhale. It's HILARIOUS.
instead of burying the N word, we need 2 focus on burying the H word, because people tend 2 use that word frequently, under false pretenses, towards people who R opinionated, I can't speak 4 anyone else, but if I feel that there's a problem with how a celebrity presents & carries themself, I'm going 2 speak my mind, Y? because it's an opinion that I am entitled 2.
No Hate.
@ hotlatte and Msk1203..
I totally agree with you both. Good posts. And to employ that many blacks on both the front and back ends of his empire, is extremely commendable on his part. Martin Lawrence and Jamie Fox wore dresses in the early stages of their careers, and are not catching the heat and implications that MTO somehow wants to unfairly depart on Tyler. Sounds like someone on staff is just a tad bit jealous, and just needs to give this man his Kudo's and leave it at that. Get paid, Tyler.
Katt Williams said that it is a haters job to hate, I just wish they would keep the hate to themselves. TP is not hurting no man nor woman doing what he does, so we as a people should be saying thank you for clean cut, teaching, comdey and drama in these days of darkness. People it is time for that CHANGE everybody is talking about. Put it into action and stop talking about it.
I saw the play, the movie is going to be less entertaining. theres nothing better than seeing something live. plus I know theyre going to change it up a little. after this movie he needs to give it a rest, theyre all starting to have the same look. Im hoping he tries something a little more fresh next time. not the same old preachy gospel stuff.

I am sooo damn sick and tired of films featuring black men in women's clothing. Dave Chappelle is right. Hollywood tries to make every black comedian wear a damn dress. Its nothing more than a slick attempt to emasculate Black men while making them look like minstrels for people to laugh at. ----- While i sympathize with your frustation, i would say that you are incorrect as it relates to Tyler Perry. He created his own idea and vision of “Madea” based on an actual aunt/mother that carried a gun. Hollywood has very little to do with the success of Tyler Perry ‘s creation or his decision to do it. Also, Hollywood depictions of other black men in dresses is not isolated to black men alone, there have been early depictions of white men wearing dresses long before blacks. Remember the hilarious white male character in Hogan’s Heroes that kept wearing dresses? Tootsie got it all started…and took it to the big screen. John Travolta was also depicted in a dress in his recent acting role. I just would not equate race to this particular issue because it has little if anything to do with it in my opinion.
@fire4u- Good comment girl. I co-sign
@esotericdredz- I agree with you on Hollywood's exploitation of feminine weak black male stereotypes but in Tyler's case, he's become a multi-millionaire based on his own Madea Brand (as it is his concept). Also he is the FIRST BLACK person to OWN a PRODUCTION company. In hollyweird this is a HUGE accomplishment! I remember Bill cosby and Oprah were trying to open their own production company but racist Hollywood wasn't ready to give black folks any owership. Now we see Tyler has not only managed to become the first black person to run his own production company, but he has also done it independently of white publisits, managers, and agents. Tyler is a true definition of a SELF MAN MADE MILLIONAIRE so I can't knock him for that.
@Resurrected- Why do black people get all in arms about Tyler's protrayal of an urban, witty and hip grandmother?! What's wrong with Madea. Quite frankly she is too hilarious and got the down home humour that black folks find amusing and a bit nostalgic. If you ask me, Madea is a whole lot more comedic than "My wife and Kids" , "Meet with Dennis Cooper", and those other watered down black shows that possess white humour in order to draw a more diverse crowd.
Guess Jeans
I like Medea I was commenting on someone elses post I like Tyler and his message you get no problems from me. I don't think Tyler get exploited becasue he was smart enough to cut his own path and work only for hisself and the message that he wants to present. That is why he built his own movie studio to not have to listen to Hollywood or get bully by them.
@ Guess/Fire4u
I see your points. But I think that makes Tyler just as bad as some of the mainstream white movie execs who constantly feed us these images. The grandmother character of Madea....You mean to tell me that he can't find a qualified black actress to play that role? Would it really lose that much appeal if a fine actress like Jennifer Lewis or Loretta Devine (just a couple off the top of my head) played the role? Believe me they could being the same attitude and sass to the role without having a big black man looking like a clown in a wig.
And yes there have been occasions where white actors have done roles in drag. But it has become an alarming trend with black male comedians, starting with Flip Wilson back in the day and continuing to present time (I mean damn, I forgot what its like to see a Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy movie WITHOUT them in a dress!)
Just look at Dave Chappelle's take on it...Believe me, there is MUCH more to this than meets the eye...

I completely understand where everyone is coming from about the black man in a old black women's dress. Yes he could get well qualified actresses to play the role, but it is his character. Nobody can play Madea, but Tyler Perry. I think as a community we should see the big picture. He has opened up doors for our community that wasn't open just five years ago. Stop picking on what people do wrong and celebrate the things the do right. His movies have powerful and realistic messages. We put each other down so much and that is why other ethnics feel they can put us down as well. We have to stop it.
NIGGGAS IS FUNNY. WHY DO NIGGGAS THINK "HE/SHE MAKING MONEY" IS A DEFENSE TO EVERYTHING? I DONT GIVE A DAMN HOW MUCH MONEY SOMEBODY MAKING IF WHAT THEY DOING TO MAKE IT IS FUCCCKED UP TO BLACK PEOPLE THEN ITS STILL FUCCCKED UP. THE COMMENTS IS RIGHT, THIS NIGGGA AINT LIVING IN HIS CAR NO MORE, HE COULD GET A WOMAN TO PLAY THE ROLL BUT HIS PUNK SWEET ASS STILL WANT TO WALK AROUND IN PANTIES. AND DAVE CHAPPEL WAS SPITTIN REAL TALK ON HOW TRY TO MAKE BLACK MEN LOOK BAD AND THIS COON ASS NIGGGA DONT EVEN SEE THAT HE DOING THE SAME THING. FUCCCK HIM AND HIS MONEY I AINT NEVER WATCHED NONE OF HIS MOVIES AND DONT PLAN ON IT.
Hello to all...
Opinions are just that.. an opinion! People are going back and forth about a man dressing up as a man. Yet jesus himself was NEVER protrayed in a set of paints or was he? no matter what verison/picture/or personal imagine you may have of him WE all still understood the message and concept he gave to us. or whatever angel he used to get his message across to those who believed... (Moose..who didnt wear paints either)
People are entered into our lives for seasons and reasons. if you were blessed enough to take the time to attend or watch one of his plays you may know that TP does drop bible verses throughtout the play or movie. or just common knowledge or sense that some may not have.
You have a man who is saying its ok to have problems as a family but deal with them as a family. Or that violence or drug abuse has reached us all in some from or fashion... how about we argue over what the message in the plays and or movies are about rather than the delivery of the message or the context of the messages... God uses all of us in different ways for different reasons... you don't ask or question messages or blessing you just say thank you lord i got it and keep it moving....
@ eso.. The grandmother character of Madea....You mean to tell me that he can't find a qualified black actress to play that role? Would it really lose that much appeal if a fine actress like Jennifer Lewis or Loretta Devine (just a couple off the top of my head) played the role? ---------- Nooooo! no way . he he ..lmao Eso! No one else can do that, he created her! And,what makes Madea so funny and endearing is the fact that you KNOW it's a man doingit. lol! I love Madea, and no one could do it but Tyler.! My daughter is 7 and she can tell it's a man dressed as a woman, which makes it all the more funny! lol They were calling Loretta Divine Madea in that Christmas movie that Chris Brown played in and it urked me. SHe is not funny and i hate her winey voice. So, no thanks,Tyler found his nitch. I find it sexy that a man can be confident and funny enough in his comedic role to do that, and still look good masculine. I saw Tyler at the Janet Jackson concert, close up enough to tell you that he is a handsome man and seems very masculine. He switches it up very well.. so give him a black academy award for great acting and entertainment.
I am not into the Madea phenomenon, could take it or leave it, but I am proud of the empire that Tyler has created.
I agree with Esoteric;
I am sooo damn sick and tired of films featuring black men in women's clothing. Dave Chappelle is right. Hollywood tries to make every black comedian wear a damn dress. Its nothing more than a slick attempt to emasculate Black men while making them look like minstrels for people to laugh at. ** I've been sick of it for years, but Eddie Murphys 'Norbit' was the last straw. That movie was disgraceful. Big large rude uncouth black woman played against Thandie Newtons cute, wholesome, perfect Biracialness. Gag!
When is enough enough?
For the record, Tyler DOES bring a level of comic skill and respect to the character Madea, and is the least offensive of the men in drag series. My opinion.
I'm glad that Denzel Washington has enough integrity and Black pride not to lower himself to play a female character.
Let's see: Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Wesley Snipes, The Wayans Brothers, Jaime Foxx, Traci Morgan, Tyler Perry, etc. have all profitted from making Black men look like a bunch of coons.
You females kill me about complaining about all the D.L. guys, but then try to justify all this faggotry because of the money that these men have made.
Let me ask this question? If you were a Black female actress and the money was right, would you play a maid for a White family in 10 straight movies. I'm not talking about some movie portraying the 1920's, I'm talking 2009? In that movie you will be doing all types of menial things, and ''master'' would have his way with you. Now would you disgrace Black women all in the name of money for that role?
The sad part is most of you would probably still do it because of a lack of pride and integrity. If some of you are too dumb to see the impact of all these Black actors acting like queens, then you will continue to support stupidity!!
This is crazy as hell some of yall are in here flip flopping and some of yall just sound straight STUPID!!!!!! There are more things on this DAM planet to worry about then TP money, how he do it, why he do it. This man is not hurting any of us at all. If you don't like it that's on you and if you like that's cool too. But all this he gay he aint that is not our business. Our business should be getting to the point where he is now, coming from nothing and now being able to help someone else. Stop tripping over the dum Sh!t. We don't say sh!t when a white person does it and the white community don't say sh!t either. So just shut the [EXPLETIVE] up and get on your own dam grind that would put food on another brothers table and send a black child to college. I am so sick of this Bvllsh!t and MTO you bring out the worst in people sometimes how many children in the urban community have you all sent to college?????????? Now this is some real talk for ya a$$
BTW) I SEE ALOT OF BROTHERS WHO ARE STRAIGHT OUT BUSTERS! How can you hate a talented brother like Tyler Perry?! He is a self-made multi-millionaire and a self-suffcient, independent man. He didn't rely on ANYBODY but his drive, motivation, and brains to succeed. He was living in his car some years ago, hustling to sell his scripts. I find Madea an ingenious and original brand and only tyler could play that part.
@ricflair
Like a boid, a plane, do you ever get the feeling this went about 35000 ft over folks heads? I'm glad that Denzel Washington has enough integrity and Black pride not to lower himself to play a female character.

You talkin but they don't hear you though...
...Add to that, these roles are usually insulting and stereotypical of black women. Any REAL black woman would be too ashemed to do it. Caricatures of being mammyish, overbearing, fat, ghetto, loud, uncouth, dumb..etc... However Madea is the more tolerable I've seen. Tyler has the personality to make it genuinely funny without being insulting. My opinion
@ RicFlair : YOU REALLY NEED A SEDATIVE....why are you taking this to such a hatred filled level? and im asking a totally rhetorical answer, i dont really want to know your answer. lookit fucksack, tyler has done something that HE wanted to do, and has profited from it. why ask that dumb question about would you in 2009 be a house maid in a movie....yep. and the noun in the question is MOVIE!!! it is ficticious and not real!!! oh, but i guess you though that movie about them damned bees with queen latifa and alicia keys was oscar worthy didn't you? it was a mess positive in my opinion, but it was JUST ENTERTAINMENT so i didn't get all huffy over it. and, to add to your apparent negrosity(be it if you are white or not) he isn't exploiting african americans in any manner...but flavor flav is, and damnit i'll stand by my comment! F.O.L was/is/always will be a modern day menstral show, laced in acrobatic baffonery....lay off T.P., he's making positive moves and he's using black actors who haven't been used in a good while.
RicFlair Flag post I'm glad that Denzel Washington has enough integrity and Black pride not to lower himself to play a female character. _________ Denzel is a serious actor, not a comic.Tyler created this role by doing plays. Each man has his calling., and most of them that you named are comedians and played the roles well!! I still consider Jamie Foxx a straight man, and would date him. If you are secure within you "manhood", then acting should not affect who you are as a person.if your are insecure or it bothers you, then don't take the roll. Your analogy about the maid is ludicrous because being a maid is a job. The mistreatment would not make since unless it were the 20's or 60's. SO,..i'm scratching my head on that one. But i see your point none the less.
With all his money and a brand new movie studio, why does he continue to make the same movie over and over? Hasn't Medea been done to death? Or does he just likes to play Medea ____ He has a fan site and he reads it from time to time. he sends out emails to his early fans that supported his plays. he knows we "love" madea. he does it for us. That's why. Now think positive! It's just a movie....jeeeeeez! lol
