: MediaTakeOut,com just learned that police in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. are concerned that there may be a serial killer who is targeting Black mothers and their teenage daughters. And the killer appears to be preying on women in Prince Georges County, Maryland - the county with the highest concentration of affluent African Americans in the United States.
On Monday night, Prince Georges County police found the bodies of Deloris and Ebony Dewitt, a mother and daughter, burning in a stolen Nissan Maxima.
And a little less than two months ago, the bodies of another mother and daughter, Karen and Karissa Lofton, were found shot dead in their Maryland home. MediaTakeOut.com learned that Karen and Karissa lived less than a mile away from Monday’s double murder.
Maj. Andrew Ellis of the Prince Georges County police is concerned that the murders may have both been perpetrated by the same serial killer. He said on Wednesday, "We don't have any evidence that this is a serial killer … But the coincidences between these cases are very strong."

Backing off a statement they made at the Tuesday news conference, police said yesterday that they are no longer sure that the Lofton home in the 10800 block of Southall Drive was burglarized before the Loftons were killed.
Detectives are also investigating the theft of the vehicle in which the Dewitts' bodies were found and a burglary at the home of the car's owner, in the 10800 block of Woodlawn Boulevard. Police said they think that the car key was the only item taken during the Feb. 28 burglary and that the burglar returned Monday and took the car.
According to sources, the resident called police from her driveway at 3:39 a.m. Monday reporting that she and her boyfriend had returned home to find her Nissan Maxima missing. Ten minutes later, as the woman spoke to a 911 operator, she shrieked. According to two sources who have heard a tape of the conversation, she said someone was speeding by her house -- in her car.
Nine minutes later, in a cul-de-sac less than three blocks away, firefighters and police found the car ablaze in the driveway of a vacant house. A four-hour search of nearby woods and houses turned up no suspects.
Investigators think the last time the Dewitts were seen alive was almost 24 hours earlier, between 1 and 3 a.m. Sunday, when a neighbor saw Ebony return home, said Maj. Andy Ellis, chief spokesman for the police department.
Yesterday, police questioned the Dewitts' relatives, including Courtney Hicks, a second daughter who found the home empty and her mother and sister missing Sunday night, sources said. She and other members of the Dewitt family reported Deloris and Ebony missing Monday morning.
Today, a 25-member police task force formed to investigate the slayings will move into a separate building, working in seclusion to focus its efforts and staffing shifts round-the-clock. Led by Maj. Daniel Dusseau, head of the department's major crimes unit, the group includes representatives of the county sheriff's office and the Maryland-National Capital Park Police. State Sen. Ulysses Currie (D-Prince George's) said last night that he is asking the Maryland State Police to join the task force.
Like Deloris Dewitt, Karen Lofton was a longtime nurse. In January, she started working at Lake Arbor Elementary School.

More than 200 people crowded into the Lively Stone Worship Center in Landover to honor Delores Renee Dewitt, 42, who worked as a nurse in Clinton, and her daughter Ebony Dewitt, 19, a Largo High School student, whose bodies were found in a burning stolen car.
The Dewitts' deaths made them the second mother and daughter to be found dead in the quiet residential area within two months, following the Jan. 26 homicide of Karen Lofton, 45, and her 16-year-old daughter, Karissa Lofton, less than two miles away.
The Loftons were found dead in their home in the 10800 block of Southall Drive around 2:50 a.m., after Karissa called 911 and told police she and her mother had been shot. She was able to give dispatchers her address, but by the time responders arrived five minutes later, both were dead.
Delores and Ebony Dewitt, who lived in the 9700 block of Cedarhollow Lane, were found two miles from their home in the backseat and trunk of a Nissan Maxima sedan that had been set on fire in a driveway in the 11100 block of Webbwood Court in Largo. The Nissan was apparently stolen that morning using keys taken from the car owner's house in a break-in several weeks earlier.
Police are exploring similarities in the two mother-daughter homicides. The Dewitts and Loftons were both killed early Monday mornings, and both mothers were single and worked as nurses. Karen Lofton recently began working at Lake Arbor Elementary in Mitchellville after leaving Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
During the neighborhood meeting Wednesday, Rayle, the police commander, warned residents to make sure their home and car keys are accounted for and to lock windows and doors.
Police have created a task force led by Maj. Daniel Dusseau, head of the police department's crimes unit, with police working in shifts 24 hours a day to investigate the two sets of homicides, and a safety seminar March 28 is designed to help residents ward off burglaries and attackers.
A $25,000 award is being offered for information leading to arrests in each case.
