: MediaTakeOut.com just got some sad news. Apparently Tom Joyner’s radio show will NO LONGER be heard in Chicago. Apparently his ratings were POOR and the local radio station cancelled the show – replacing it with Steve Harvey’s Morning Show.
Shows are getting cancelled LEFT and RIGHT. We got word that another BIG NAME morning radio show is about to get cancelled too. Y’all radio folk need to step up your games and try something new if you wanna keep your jobs …
Why they replace him with Steve Harvey? People hate Harvey. I mean that literally. I ain't met anyone who likes him or listen to his show. They should have kept Tom Joyner cuz he was way better.
I bet this has something to do with him helping get President Obama elected president over Hillary. The Clinton's were real hot with him over that. They thought he would fall in line with their butt boy Tavis Smiley.
Nah, that's just crazy talk... or is it???
I live in Chicago...and Tom has been on the radio here in this town for over 25-years...so he will be missed...
The truth of the matter regarding him being fired in Chicago is this...
The "over" 35 demographic, which is the one that listens to V-103 where Tom was let go from...have more options when it comes to radio now...and if they're like me...they're listening to their satallite radio where we TRULY can hear the dusties and NOT hear the same Mary J. Blige/Robin Thicke song over and over again...
We can listen to "CNN"..."The Groove"..."Heart & Soul"..."The Heat"...and don't forget "The Foxxhole"...
So...unless you're keeping up a bunch of mess like Steve Harvey does on his show...you're pretty much gonna be outta luck...
I'm a Chicagoan till Chicago ends (One luv to my peeps representin Englewood, 71st and Morgan and my peeps representing The wild hundreds and Riverdale)
Now Steve Harvey came on WGCI 107.5 replacing the woman beater (Crazy Howard McGee) and Tom Joyner has been on WVAZ 102.7 (V-103) for at least 15 years. You mean to tell me that Steve Harvey will have TWO radio stations in the morning in Chicago? Steve Harvey SUX!!!!!
@Lala11_7
You are sooo right. I turned off my satellite radio when Tom Joyner came on. There are only 2 DJ's I do that for. Tom Joyner and Herb Kent The Kool Gent. Personally, I think Tom Joyner is a needed voice on terrestrial radio but Herb Kent should move to satellite. His stories about the stars are hilarious and more people need to experience him.
@ClassicBlackness
I agree but Tom Joyner was connected to the community politically. Really, without him a lot of cities would not have had a political voice last year during the elections. And yeah, I think there was more too canceling Tom Joyner than just ratings. It will be interesting to see if he's canceled in any other cities. I know Chicago only has one other black political voice on the radio and he's relegated to am radio.
I live in Chicago and every morning I really enjoyed listening to the Tom Joyner radio show as I am sure so many others did. I stopped listening to WGCI radio, because of Steve Harveys bafoonish antics,unfunny programing,lame unfunny nephew(Tommy),bullshit selection of music and many other reasons I could go on and on about. There is NO WAY PEOPLE WEREN'T LISTENING TO TOM JOYNER RADIO!!! When I awoke this morning and couldn't get the station and heard Steve's show I thought they had got their channels crossed or something was wrong with the outside lines,but after Steve's annoying voice wouldn't go away I just turned off the radio. ANYTIME TOM JOYNER IS OUT AND STEVE HARVEY IS IN SOMETHING IS TERRIBLY WRONG.... Sounds like Steve Harvey has some very special friends at the top if you know what I mean? I love the Steve Harvey Show, so you all can say what you like. But here is my question. Steve already comes on WGCI so now he is going to be coming on twice in the morning? They didn't have to fire Tom Joyner without finding a real replacement. B/C now you have Steve on 107.5 and 103.5 and that doesnt make any sense.
After Steve Harvey's two guest spots on Oprah(who owns that city)It was only a matter of time. Oprah attracts a big audience. So Steve Harvey Has a build in audience and a number 1 selling book. Do the math. Tom Joyner is a good man. But being good don't pay the bills in the entertainment industry...
whatwhatwhat & chigurl - Y'all remember The Nate Clay Show that came on Saturdays at midnight on WLS-AM 890? That brotha used to raise some hell for the YT establishment, both local and national. He shows up Saturday mornings on WCPT-AM 820 Chicago's Progressive Talk, every now and then. Catch him if you can.
Clear Channel Broadcasting has done Chicago a great disservice by cancelling the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Tom has been an icon in Chicago radio since I was a child even flying back and forth between Dallas and Chicago to host two radio shows. Its a really sad day for Chicago radio......glad I left a couple months ago because he's still on the air here in Charlotte!!
And for all you TJMS haters............his show wasn't for the immature, under 30, booty shakers. It was for those of us that wanted to make a difference in our communities. Steve Harvey is a buffoon and his show is ridiculous at best.
Steve Harvey is the ABSOLUTE best morning show!!!! And he's the funniest. I used to listen to Tom Joyner but everything that the play and say on the radio is just...old...They're not funny or anything. Then I listened to Russ Parr but sometimes they're just too much. They're funny on that station sometimes. But I love Steve Harvey. He's funny and he plays some of the old, some of the current, and some of the new.
I just don't like sydicated radio. I just don't think that 1 or 2 chosen people should be the voice of a nationwide black radio audience.
I assure you that other communities don't listen to a corporate ONE chosen dj spewing the political views of the parent company.
Houston can bring back Uncle Funky (Funky Larry Jones) or the Snowman (I think in NY now) or anybody!! Just someone who lives in the respective areas and knows what's up with it.
@ whatwhatwhat I hear you about the political voice thing for some areas during elections. Joyner did his thing in that regard for sure!!
Before I left Houston, I stopped listening to morning radio because of the TJMS syndication. I played my dayum cds!! LOL. But when I got to KC, I did listen to Steve Harvey for a bit and it was funny for a while, but I trying to learn more about the city and syndicated radio gives you nothing but canned traffic reports and national commercial spots!! UGHHH!!! So, back to cd's I went!!! LOL
Clear Channel swaps Joyner for Harvey on WVAZ "V103"
More morning show news out of Chicago, as Clear Channel Urban AC WVAZ “V103” has decided to drop long time syndicated morning man Tom Joyner. They will move Premiere Radio Networks syndicated “Steve Harvey Show” from Urban sister WGCI (107.5) over to V103, starting immediately. That means WGCI will also have a new wake up show, and Radio-Info.com hears it will be WGCI veteran and local morning flavor guy for the Harvey show, Tony Schofield, who will fill the slot.
I live in the Chicago area... Tom Joyner has been on the radio for 13 years here, and today he was just GONE from the air, no advanced warning or NOTHING! According to the local news in Chi-Town, Steve Harvey's show will be simulcast on WVAZ and WGCI at the same time through March 31st. Many people in Chicago are SUPER pissed off!!
I've heard people calling into other urban stations (Power 92.3) saying that they're REALLY unhappy that Tom is gone and that they don't like Steve Harvey and WILL NOT listen to him. They're saying he's arrogant, rude, not funny and they don't like his co-hosts either (Nephew Tommy, Shirley and Carla).
The Power 92.3 morning show, Trey The Chocklit Jock, will probably see the most listener gains from this change (Trey's show is really popular in Da Chi anyway). I liked Tom's show a lot... morning radio in Chicago won't be the same
@ Felony What's up my man!? Long time no hear from... hope all's good with you.
This was a crackheaded move. Tom Joyner has a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG history and HUGE fan following in Chicago, so removing him from the air in Chicago will come bite Clear Channel in the ASS majorly!
Wonder if the same fate will befall Doug Banks (who also has a LOOOOONNNNNGG history in Chicago) and Dee Dee McGuire's afternoon show on WVAZ??
WE Aneed Tom Joyner in every city. He was a huge force in htis election. Getting information to the people. Wise up the poeple of Chicago, this is a political plot. You folks should be out now protesting. I wouldn't listen to Steve Harvey is it was the only radio station in the world. Didn't hear much from from during the election. Remember this man tried to ripp off his ex-wife, and almost went to jail, because he thought she wasn't worth a penny. I don't trust bubble lips. We need someone with political pull.
I'm gonna miss Tom Joyner because he gave away $1000.00 a day and no other radio show did that. And all you had to do is call in with the 3 numbers and you win a easy $1000.00 That money came in handy for people who won. I called in and got through but apparently somebody had called right before I did so their line was picked up and I was on hold. Unfortunately that person won the money. I didn't win but I enjoyed playing because it was so easy. I got through on Doug and Dee Dee The impossible 10. I had all the answers right and again my line was right after another person so I was on hold. Now had that person missed it, then my line would of been next to get picked up and I could of won some money off that show too, but again that person hit all the answers on the head and won. So I'm gonna miss me some Tom. Sybel's laugh irritated the hell out of me.
The show sucked and Huggy Low Down came from the Donnie Simpson Show. It was not a Tom Joyner skit. I guess they wanted to add more humor to the dull show to begin with. Ricky Smiley is ok and Russ Parr is tolerable, but The Junkies are better. Just like Big O and Dukes, they don't give a sh!t who they talk about.
@KnowtheTruth
You know the summer is coming and ain't nothing like a lakefront BBQ with Herb Kent blasting. He's still on V103 in the afternoons (Saturdays/Sundays). And he is STILL on his game. Battle of the Bands and everything. You should come back home sometime and check it out. But if you want to listen to him from where you are just pull up [link to external website removed] on Saturday/Sunday and livestream him. And please ignore the ugly ass pictures of Steve Harvey posted on everything.
IT'S COLD HOW THEY FIRED TOM,HE CAME OFF OF VACATION AND, NO LONGER HAD A JOB!! THAT'S WHY I SAID MOURNING SHOW BECAUSE I KNOW HE WAS CRYING WHEN HE LOST HIS JOB!!! STEVE HARVEY SHOULD LET HIM BE APART OF HIS SHOW. EVERY SINCE STEVE MADE TWO APPEARENCES ON OPRAH THEY THINK HIS RUBBER MOUTH AZZ WILL BOOST RATINGS WE WILL SEE!!!!
@whatwhatwhat "If you are in Tom Joyner's market and can still get him please post the link to their radio station. "

Tom seems like a great person but eventually he's going to have to change some of his format. I like talk radio with issues like Michael Baisden. However, Tom is primarily music with little talk. I haven't heard Steve's radio show.
Steve is beginning to redeem himself to people. Since he's gotten into the church he appears different. He's been married several times and is letting women know how he played the game. He gave some great info about men on Oprah. It's about time a man told women that if he doesn't call or doesn't call back, he's just not into you. Also, if he doesn't give you a title of girlfriend, lady, or something, you know the relationship isn't going anywhere. My favorite was the sex part though. Too many women are having sex with men on the first date. You don't even know his middle name or favorite color yet having sex with him already!!!
@chicagofinest: I don't think Tom's cancellation had anything to do with him being on vacation. Sounds like they were planning that before he left. A local, long time radio personlity where I live lost his show too. Listeners were stunned!! It's a sign of the times. Low ratings and you're out.
I would love to hear Tom talk more about issues instead of all that music. He's great when he does talk about something. I listen to a radio show out of another state and they play music too but there's more social issues, celebrities, current events than music.
Steve is sooo played out, insecure and tired. He thinks he's hip and cool and gangsta, but he's a complete goofy. He even admits in his book that he once admired the playa like qualities of another man and aspired to be like him..WTF? You have to jack another man's swagger? That's because he was never looked at as someone who a QUALITY woman would even give a second glance to. Hell quiet as it's kept he thinks Oprah is UNHAPPY and MANLESS! But he probably left her with wet panties with his blaxploitation charm and that's why she's ridin his dyck. He jealous of Tom Joyner, or the "LIL FAT YELLOW BASTARD" as he refers to him!...ALL STEVE'S WORDS! His book is nothing more than recycled versions of the books, "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS ONLY KNOW SO MUCH", "WHY MEN LOVE BITCHES" and "HE'S JUST NOT THAT INOT YOU." He didn't even have the sense enough to come up with an original title.. [link to external website removed]
