Why do people seem to think that being Latina somehow doesn't make you black. Latino is not a race people, WAKE UP!!! Just like American is not a race. This woman is obviously of African descent some kind of a way. Black American weren't the only people brought over on the slave trade, you guys seem to think that you're the only blacks in the world outside of Africa. If you're not from a country that speaks English than you're some other race. Dominicans, Cubans, Belizean, Brazilian, or whatever, are all products of the transatlantic slave trade in which Spain, England, Portugal and France took part. I see the education system in America is bad and obviously people's eyesight too!!! Afro-Latinos stand up!!!

The reason why MTO emphasized the "black girl" part in the headline was to draw attention to the fact that while Wilmer may not be with Rihanna, he is still with another Black female. At first glance, the girl pictured above DOES in fact love black. Even if she were latina, how could you tell? Living in nyc/bronx, I see so many Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Guatemalans, Cubans, Panamanians, Guyanese, and Hondurans on a daily basis, and I would not know that they were part of the aforementioned ethnicity unless they told me. Why? NEWSFLASH: THEY ARE ALSO BLACK!!! Sorry, try as you might to deny it, you latinos have African ancestors as well as European, and Taino Indian ancestors. You are part of the Black race. Get pulled over by a cop, and he will not bother sitting there trying to guess your particular ethnicity; you will be labeled as "black" immediately. Because that is what you are. I have even witnessed a caramel-complected Dominican girl referring to another darker-skinned Dominican girl as morenita (a term used to describe black girls), until she found out that she was Dominican also. She nearly flipped! I used to date a Dominican boy in high school. He was caramel-complected as well, but everyone thought he was Black, including the lighter-skinned Dominican girls, until he started to speak to them in spanish. So what I mean?
And the fact that some of you "blacks" on here are sitting here saying that the girl isn't a true black woman only further demonstrates the division we have among our own people. Beyonce, Zoe Saldana, and Dania Ramirez are probably as light as this girl. Are they not black also?

She might be Latina. I think there is some confusion, there are Aficans who adapted spanish culture, so they speak spanish, and have have spanish names, but they are African Americans. Then you have some people who are a mixture of african and spanish. Taking up a multi-cultural class is beneficial, some people have no clue

Anyway most Latino's tend to be on the bi-racial (mulatto/mestizo) or multi-racial spectrum, but there still are Black and White Latino's as well.
I remember back in the day, most AA females I knew would divide the darker Latinos from what they felt were the "real Blacks" by their hair texture. Now don't get mad at me cuz this is what the black females I grew up with used to consider. If she was yellow to caramel or darker skinned latina but had quote unquote "good hair" those AA women did not consider that dark-skinned-girl-in-question Black at all. If the person spoke spanish, had Latin American parents and had what they considered manageable hair they weren't really black to them. They weren't just Blacks who spoke Spanish. They wouldn't consider them black at all. I guess they believed the thinner hair texture, Spanish speaking and mixed ancestry excluded them from being black.
Still today there are so many mixed opinions on it worldwide. You will never get a clear consensus from any side on what someone may feel is "White enough" or Black enough" or whatever enough".

I don't know where you all are from or what your family members look like ... but it is obvious the young lady is black. i am her complexion and my hair texture is very similar to hers and both of my parents are african american.
i guess for some of ya'll if you ain't dark or brown and your hair isn't kinky then u r mixed with something or you aren't black

I was born in Colombia, but I am straight up black/african with naturally course/afro-textured hair. but at times people react to it in such a negative way if i were to mention where i was born and speak spanish! for example: "you can't be latina because you are dark skinned" or "you are a sell-out" [when i speak the language or mention my NATIONALITY].. I'm very proud to be black and not ever have I been ashamed of it, like people want us to believe... We have to keep reminding people that Latino is NOT a race. It is an ethnicity ranging from the fairest caucasians to the darkest of dark. From fine type 1 hair...to Course, afro-textured hair. ANYONE can be from ANYWHERE nowdays and people don't get that or don't want to get it!

Man I bet Wilmer Valderamma is part Afro-Hispanic himself. A lot of my old friends that were from Venezuela, like Wilmer, had a black grand parent or were mixed with it. They proudly told me that they had a black grandmother or black grand father. Their President is Black, Native, and Spanish mixed. She looks like a afro-mixed cuban to me, or maybe black and white, or just plain light-skinned black american girl, with a lil indian or white in the family lol.
