: Jay Z’s cache may be gone. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that a concert given by the Brooklyn rapper lost promoters almost 1 million dollars. Here’s how the Arizona Daily Star is reporting things:
The Last Smash Platinum Bash, which featured Jay-Z and Kelly Clarkson, ended up $917,000 in the red. The concert cost $1,420,000, and ticket and merchandise sales brought in only $503,502, according to student organizers.DANG!! And it gets worse. Apparently the concert was held for students at the University Of Arizona. And the loss from the concert is putting a strain on the University’s budget.
Wonder if Soulja Boy woulda flopped that badly ….
charge less for tickets...and the problem is solved...who has time and money to just go to concerts jigga u r a multi millionare, how about you raffle tickets at the concert and the winner gets their rent/mortgage paid for the year...it would be packed then...start giving back and stop taking people will show love
And don't say it's the recession because if people can but tickets to see X-men Origins giving it an opening of $87 million and Fast and the Furious giving that an opening of $73 million then clearly it's the product that's faulty. Nobody wants to pay to see Jigga anymore. Jay your glory days have passed. You're a respected has-been and should retire and GO AWAY!!! PLEASE. That beyonce syndrome is rubbing off on you. You can't keep trying to milk the game. You and your loser wife should disappear immediately.
It's a bunch of reasons other than a recession that caused that to happen. The current state of hip-hop is weak...he was playing in front of the wrong audience [Kelly Clarkson fans don't like Jay]...10 years ago it wouldn't have been an issue. And finally, he's out of touch with his audience. People are broke right now and they don't wanna go to a concert and watch a millionaire perform. We loved Jay [at one point] because he was just like the rest of us, but our lives are on 2 different paths now that most people just don't want to hear that you drive a Maybach. We tryin to gas up our Hondas.
This is true... I leave in AZ and they been talking about this all damn day! But it was not only Jay-z performing.. They also had Third Eye Blind (whoever they are...) and Kelly Clarkson. So what do you expect?! The tickets were a decent price, but that was where the problem came in... If the tickets are too cheap, of course you gonna end up in the negative! Jay-Z still made his money though... Third Eye Blind only walked away with $80K... And that's a group having to split that! I mean, they probably spent that much on the trip to Tucson and management/advertisement fees!
Jay made a mistake trying to be like the big boys like Jordan with all this making a comeback stuff, but it aint really nothing to comeback to. See the youngsters have their minds on something else right now, but if he would just hook up with the old school rappers and do shows I promise he would sell out like nobody's business. @trixie LMAO at Beyonce pimping....I've to talk to you on other threads. I have decided not to post on any Beyonce thread. MTO is running out with all of this mess everyday dayum day. So in order to stop them from being posting.....I'm refusing to comment on any of her threads. I know it may take a while, but maybe other people who get tired of her will do the same. I know Jay Z is coming up with some form of excuse to why he flopped cause just like his wife they can't and don't see anything as failure.
This is the full story...
Jay-Z's recent show at Arizona's Last Smash Platinum Bash concert last week reportedly failed to generate enough profits causing concert promoters a loss of nearly $1 million.
Performing at the venue's first concert in over 32 years, Jigga's presence was unable to avoid the promoters from landing in the red.
The Last Smash Platinum Bash, which featured Jay-Z and Kelly Clarkson, ended up $917,000 in the red. The concert cost $1.42 million, and ticket and merchandise sales brought in only $503,502, according to student organizers. Tommy Bruce, outgoing president of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona, blamed the event's struggles on the economy. "Nobody predicted the economy would be the way it is now last May," he said. The contract for Jay-Z, who was paid $750,00, was signed March 24. (Arizona Daily Star) Jay recently spoke on his overall experience at the venue and broke down racial barriers found throughout hip-hop.
"On the show as well were Third Eye Blind and Kelly Clarkson," Jay explained. "I thought that to be the oddest pairing ever but, soon realized, it's what I've always professed. There is no such thing as black music or white music only good or bad music. It's stupid cool to like things that are not like you, and that goes for outside of music. If you're an African American you can have a Jewish friend...I think concerts like this should happen more often...I'm putting that into the universe..next up Taylor Swift and Uncle Murda!!" (Rap Radar) Admission for the event ran from roughly $26 to $200.
The April 29 concert is presented by the Associated Students of The University of Arizona and any profits from the show will go into a scholarship fund. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday (March 27) for UA students and at noon for everybody else online only asua.arizona.edu. Prices range from $26 to $200. (AZ Starnet) He is known for bringing in large crowds and performing at historic venues including last October's performance at the renovated Hollywood Palladium in California.
"I'm honored to play such an iconic venue," Jay-Z said in a statement issued last August. "Just as Frank [Sinatra] ushered in a golden era, I hope this opening will mark the beginning of a resurgence in generation-defining live music." (Los Angeles Times)
This wasnt all on Jay Z. Kelly Clarkston and Third Eye Blind where there too. They set this up way before the economy got to the point its at now.
This wasnt a Jay Z tour. It was a one time event.
Hell, I live in a tourist town in Florida. Its so slow around here lately. The bartenders and waitresses arent making any money. Some of the clubs have closed. The concerts arent selling well.
Spring Break is normally huge here in Nortwest Florida. This was probably the slowest one I've ever seen. Mom and Dad arent letting their kids their money on things like this.
Jay Z has gotten to the point in his career where he doesnt have to have a hit single or be the most popular artist to sell albums and concert tickets.
He's like the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Buffet, Metallica and Prince. He's the first hip hop artist to achieve this kinda success. They've gone beyond popstardom.
None of those artist have had hit singles in years. But every album they put out goes Platinum within weeks, and all their concert tours sell well.
They have strong loyal core fanbase that will be there for life.
Really young people will say they're washed up because they dont hear their songs on the radio, or see their video's on TV.
But, if you catch one them on tour and see how many people are at one of their shows, you'll see just how relevant they still are.
Remember, both Jay's last two albums went Platinum.
Of course this bit of information is valuable. We're talking about the entertainment business and it's all about marketability. Jay Z doesn't have it anymore. He's retired too many times and he ain't got no current hit. Put him out on the oldies circuit with other has been rappers in much smaller venues and I could see some sell outs.
@papamurf
WHAT SUCCESS DOES HE HAVE OTHER THAN PUTTING OUT A CD........HE'S NOT SUCCESSFUL THAN THE PEOPLE U NAMED, HE'S AT THE BOTTOM, OTHER RAPPERS HAD MORE SUCCESS THAN HIM....EMINEM, 50 CENT.....TUPAC BEEN GONE FOR ABOUT 13 YEARS NOW AND STILL SELLING, STILL INSPIRING THE YOUTH. JAY Z DID NONE OF THAT.
TaylorKennedy
How old are you?
What are talking about "A CD"?
Jay Z has had twice as many albums as 50 and Eminem.
Jay Z is probably the most successful hip hop artist in history. Not just through album sales, but his name as a business.
Its obvious that you're a child. What you just said is absolutely ridiculous. Its actually laughable.
I'm not gonna come down on you to hard cause obviously you're a kid.
