I am not saying Cubans are white. But most cubans in Miami are of a much lighter complexion than Puerto Ricans and do consider themselves to be white no matter what your definition of "white" is.

Again I do not understand why some blacks are always up in amrs when a person who believe they are of European descent describe themselves as being white. Not all Europeans are fair skin. Souther Europeans are of a darker complexion(Italians, Greeks, Portuguese) but they are still considered white.

The problem i believe is that many people view "white " in a context similar to the "light = privileged" vs "dark = underprivileged" issues that blacks deal with.

White as far as I know is used to describe people of European descent and not all Europeans are fair skin Nordic people.

Latin/Hispanic is not a race and if a Latin person wants to call themselves white because their origins are from Spain it does not take anything away from me. I know and love who I am.

By the way, I am dark skin of caribbean descent but if someone claims they are not black why the hell would I want to accept them as black.

I say good luck to them and hope that race and color concscious white America accepts them.
