I don't like that! And i hate when adults decide for a child what their hair will look like. That's a permanent decision unless at some point as a teenager, she cut all of her hair off and start over and that's not right! And what teenager wants to chop off all of her hair? And it's a parents job to take care of a child's hair until they can take care of it themselves. She should have simply got her hair braided. Who told her just cause the little girl from africa she would like dreads!? Disgusted with this decision
Certainly this is best. I commend her for doing this cuz Angelina be letting that little girl of hers hair go all wild. At least it's down off her head. And this way she can maintain it by getting someone to come do it for her ever so often. She couldda did cornrows too though, but seriously what does a saddidy rich white woman know about black hair??
at least she's not putting a relaxer nor weave on this baby's head at such a young age like certain mothers!...it's nice that she decided to keep Mercy's hair natural & from what I've noticed, dreads make your hair grown strong & long in a rather short time so that's a good thing. When she's much older, she will decide wether to keep this look or change it up.
The responses on here slay me. Madonna is doing WAY more for her daughter's hair than the majority of black parents in America are doing. Same is true for Angelina Jolie. They are buying Carol's Daughters products for their children and keeping their natural in order to foster healthy attitudes about black beauty, attitudes that are missing in the homes of black families all over the U.S. The minute these a black child's hair becomes long enough to fit into those mini pigtails, you guys slap a perm in their hair.
I admire Madonna for putting locs in Mercy's hair. A common misconception that locs are FOREVER or that they will fall out. If you do the bare necessities for your hair, for ANY women's hair, such as providing moisture, your locs will not fall out. Locs don't have to be cut off. They can be combed out. When Mercy gets older, IF she chooses to no longer rock the locs, she can comb them out, or she can cut them off. After all, IT'S JUST HAIR. Yes, I said it, it's just hair.
The only time you see Madonna wit them damn kids is when we all see Madonna wit them damn kids. She calls the paparazzi and makes thme take pics of her out. This bish usually out with some underage punk peekin out the window through a hotel curtain in Milan or some isht. GTFOH.. We don't believe you, you need more people. Big ups to your nanny.
LOVE it and I have the utmost respect for Madonna for giving her daughter a natural hairstyle. That shows a lot of cultural competence.
Of course our community if full of negroes who think a woman's hair only looks good if its permed and straight like "other folks", and those folks will complain, but trust me, those locks are natural, beautiful and in touch with her natural texture and her heritage. Thats whats up
She seems to be in another place.Madonna needs to get it together, just becoz you give a child a better life it doesn't stop there...they need interaction, not just dressing them up like dolls and showing PUBLIC affection. You show them you love them by being hands on....I wonder if she's EVER actually combed her hair?(before the locs)...It doesn't take effort to throwing a couple of Barettes in her hair!..Shame on Hollywood for making this a fad!
I HATE WHEN PEOPLE BLACK OR WHITE MAKES THAT DECISION FOR THEIR CHILD.DID SHE SAY SHE WANTED DREADS. THATS NOT RIGHT YOU DONT TO THAT TO KIDS. SAME WAY IF A PERSON IS A VEGAN DONT FORCE YOUR KIDS TO BE VEGANS TOO THAT SHOULD BE THEIR DECISION. WTF. Y DONT MADONNA DREAD HER HAIR. U MEAN TO TELL ME ALL THAT MONEY SHE CANT JUST HIRE SOMEONE TO FIX THE CHILDS HAIR.
I agree...her hair should be groomed properly..washed & conditioned once Ev 2 weeks, moisterized every 2-3 days and styled with cute lil hair adornments to match her clothing EVERDAY!...That's how you care for a BLACK Child...Clean hair, Clean skin, Clean clothes..and a full belly!..That's when you know a mother is taking GOOD care of her child!..You can tell a BAD Mother, becoz you'll see it in her children!
wow! and to think that many bloggers would've reacted in a more positive way? so much negativity...Give Madonna as well as Angelina a break..as obvious, neither are black nor have black parents so it's normal they wouldn't know exactly how to treat a black child's hair however so far they're doing pretty damn good job since their children look healthy, natural, well groomed as well as properly/nicely dressed which is truly what matters. What? the kids would've been better off wearing weaves?relaxers?..gimme a break & f.y.i ppl..I bet her of all ppl knows hair needs to be moisturized, geesh!
I don’t know WHAT to think about this at all. While on one hand, I’m glad these African children are getting a hand up in life with someone who has the finances to support them, I worry because just having the money is not enough. What black people does Madonna hang around? What black churches is she familiar? What black people socialize and share their children with these kids? How are these kids going to grow up and learn about their own culture? I’m okay with the hair business, but ya’ll know us – if she left it hanging loose – we’d have something to complain about. It she just ‘let it go’, we would have something to say about that. Nothing this white woman does for these black kids will ever be enough. As a teacher, my concern is that they are not left to their own devices and are given a spiritual, mental, social, historical picture of who they really are. Not everyone is accepting. The bottom line is – our own children are in trouble, homeless, no viable support – and we get mad when somebody white comes up and adopts them. Then we get mad because you never see a black family adopting a white child. It’s all messed up and I’m still praying about how I really feel about it all. I don’t want to blast anybody/
Some of you n*ggas are full of sh*t. You can go into some inner city environments that are damn near all black and a lot of those kids don't know the first thing about black historical figures. Some of you all aren't doing a good job sharing black history with your own kids and want to question her? If anything Madonna, by her choices with her daughters hair, seems like the type who will make an extra effort to expose her kids to their history. Leave it be and stop thinking that just because she is white there is some bad intent.
Black Moms/ Beauticians who KNOW how to control coarse hair will have NO PROBLEM combing this child's hair.Hair care for blacks is the MOST feared task when whites adopt black children. She asked what would be the best route to not having to groom it on a regular basis...and this was the results.Fraud.(Becoz she's so busy and all).
