Lol! Ok, I must admit that 15 years ago I had hairy legs too, though not as hairy as Monique's. It wasnt a lot of hair and it laid down slick to my leg due to my hair texture. I remember in the 2nd-3rd grade my teacher a BEAUTIFUL black woman had hairy legs too. I think it WAS a black woman thing we just weren't into shaving our legs like caucasions, but those days are looong gone. I left those days back in the early-mid 1990's. IT'S NOT CUTE MONIQUE!!!! LOL!
I'M NOT SURE WHY MTO AND OTHER NEWS/GOSSIP SITES CONTINUE TO DO THE SAME REPORT ON MONIQUE. SHE HAS PUBLICLY AND OPENLY ADMITTED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THROUGHOUT HER CAREER THAT SHE DOES NOT SHAVE HER LEGS.
SHE HAS EVEN SAID THIS YEARS AGO. HAVE ANY OF YOU DUMB AS* PEOPLE EVER HEARD THE SAYING OR BELIEF THAT IF YOU SHAVE YOUR HAIR YOU STRIP AWAY YOUR STRENGTH? IT'S NOT THAT SHE'S LAZY, OR TRIFFLIN' SHE HAS CHOSEN TO CONFORM TO THAT THEORY AND HEY IT JUST MAY BE WORKIN FOR HER...
A much as I am against walking around with your legs visibly unshaven, especially at an event as big as the Golden Globes for your first time nomination, MTO don't you think it would have been a better use of time and space to acknowledge the fact that Mo'nique won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture no matter how you feel about Lee Daniels or his film projects? Let's give the woman some credit for doing a wonderful job and winning in a category among actresses who have been doing drama their entire careers. Stop focusing on the negative and unimportant!
Shaving is a personal choice, but she detracted from her overall look by pulling up her dress and showing off her legs. Everything else looks elegant and smooth and then she jacks it up by showing off those legs. And congratulations on the award, but again why is it Hollyweird only recognizes black talent when they're reinforcing negative portrayals of black people? (And before folks say it, I know it's based on a true story but why are we never recognized for our positive works in film and television?)

Back in the day black women from the hood were told or thought it was cute to have hair on their legs. I don't know why. Now it's a no-no and when I started working around white people I quickly discovered it's not acceptable. She is not in the hood anymore. Worse she is in hollyweird. So she has to play their game.
