: MediaTakeOut.com just got its hands on a NEW REPORT created by the non-profit think tank The Insight Center for Community Economic Development. And it showed the DIRE need for increased wealth building – especially for Black Women!!
Here is an excerpt:
Excluding vehicles, [working age] single black women have a median wealth of $100 and Hispanic women $120 respectively, while their same-race male counterparts have $7,900 and $9,730. The median wealth of single white women is $41,500. To put it another way, single black and Hispanic women have one penny of wealth for every dollar of wealth owned by their male counterparts and a tiny fraction of a penny for every dollar of wealth owned by white women.But it gets worse, the same article finds that for ALL single Black women, the average net worth drops to only $5.With so little in reserve, half of all single black and Hispanic women could not afford to take an unpaid sick day or to even have a major appliance repaired without going into debt.
This is a very sad article to see. Check out the below charts too . . . which show that single Black men tend to fare far BETTER than women. The biggest difference . . . the financial burden of child care falls DISPROPORTIONATELY on mothers.
First off all money does not make you wealthy. You can have all the money in the world and be depressed, lonely and miserable. It's not so much how much you earn, it's how much you save. And I know too many people with good jobs that can't budget, can't manage money, and don't know how to invest wisely to make that money grow. Ok enough with the get an education I have an education and it is the reason I am in debt. What people fail to realize is that Caucasions tend to have more help when they get out into the world not always but more likely. My parents paid for none of my college expenses maybe books and such but none of the loans are in their names. Another thing people tend to turn a blind eye to is the sexism that still exists. Being a black woman is a bit different than being a black man. Not only are you black but you are a woman. We will earn less and get promoted less even though we have the experience. There are so many things that attribute to this dismal report. Wealth is net worth and that is what you OWN minus what you OWE. I mean where did they do their research, who were their subjects and how did they find them, is the wealth disproportionate in that area. For example, right now unemployment for African Americans is higher because of the economy but also because many of these companies refuse to hire blacks. So that can have an effect on income and savings when you don't have any to speak of.
Secondly OUR black leadership has failed us. Instead of teaching us HOW we can become independently successful and financially independent through creating our OWN businesses, schools, and and owning our own land.. them mutha fukkas wanted to sing KUMBUYA and we see WHERE KUMBUYA has gotten us today.. While some of us are successful we stay circulating OUR money in HIS banks which keep him WEALTHY for generations of his children to come and us rich but not WEALTHY.

& what about the fathers? I was blessed with an great father. He's always there for me emtionally & financially if I need him. I have no student loans & I don't qualify for grants cus of my income, so he pays my tuition. He's not rich, just middle class. It's called saving for ur kid's future. Oh I can offer some constructive criticism. Don't spend so much money. I don't live lavishly although I love nice things. I make excellent money, but I think about the future. Always pay yourself and try to put as much as you can in your savings acct. For low income families, if your city has an IDA(Individual something Account), can't remember the name, utilize it. For every $1 you put in the city will match either 3 or 4. You can then put that money towards school or as a down payment on a new home.
Save your income tax checks. That is a huge amount of money, and a great opportunity to increase your capital. Shop around and look for bargains. Utilize programs run by your cities for food and clothing etc. If you get child support put some of that money away after you pay bills. Don't go and get your hair done and your nails did lol.

As far as child support, sometimes that is out of your control, you have to find ways around that. Dead beat moms and dads that don't contribute is no excuse to not think of savvy ways to save and put away your money. These surveys ignore the fact of institutionalized racism and how previous white generations benefitted from government-backed programs that omitted Blacks' participation and allowed whites jobs, education and home purchases. Funny thing is, is that these single white womens' net is primarily based on the fact that their wealth is usually inherited. What I find funny is that you aren’t so upset about black women devaluing themselves by agreeing to be baby mothers to no good men, by choosing to be hoodrats who don’t get themselves educated, and by agreeing to have no self-responsibility in relation to economics. It takes a lot guts to blame black men for the degradation of the black women, while refusing to accept the fact that black women degrade themselves with their often immoral and silly behavior. Is that an excuse for black men publically disrespecting black women? Also, I find it stunning how some black women harp on about black men choosing other women from other races and cite all sorts of racist reasons for this when, in fact, the reason is simple: Why would an educated, rich black man choose to go out with a black uneducated “nigguhrette” when he can have someone educated from another race? Finding highly educated black women nowadays is a tough task, and so, educated black men are moving towards white and Latino women. It’s really not that hard.

The median is found by taking all values and taking the middle value between the highest and lowest majority. What they are saying is most black women are worth $0 and the other half is worth $10.
