And that's what happened to a New York woman named Sukhwant Herb. Nine years ago she gave birth to a boy named Seon. She later learned that Seon's father was a serial rapist. The man violently and BRUTALLY raped 3 girls in Arizona (two of them were teenagers). Seon's father is now spending 27 years in a MAXIMUM SECURITY prison for his crimes.
At first Sukhwant agreed to send Seon twice a year to Arizona to visit his dad in prison. But after more thought, she felt it was not a GOOD PLACE for a young boy to be, especially given the EXTREME CRIME that her baby's father was convicted of.
Well a Brooklyn Family Court Judge named Robin Sheares didn't feel that Sukhwant had the right to change her mind. And so she sent her to JAIL. And not just ANY jail - they threw her in THE HOLE!!!

Sukhwant Herb is serving 50 days on Rikers Island - in solitary confinement, she says = because she ignored a court order mandating twice-a-year prison visits for her son Seon.If you think this is a BAD DECISION, please contact the judge - her name is:She agreed to the visitation deal with representatives of the boy's father in September, her lawyer said.
Then she changed her mind.
"I don't want my son in that environment, seeing the prisoners in jumpers, and the slamming of gates, the noise. My son is 9, and it's horrible, horrific," Herb told the News in a phone call. "I'm locked here in a room, locked in 23 hours a day, with a TV.

After she refused 2 send the boy 2 AZ they were gonna try and come 2 some other sort of agreement but she missed 5 court hearings so the judge put out a warrant and said she was a "flight risk" They said she was uncooperative and wouldn't answer basic questions about where she lived, etc.... I am so angry with the court for trying to indoctrinate this poor little boy into visiting jail. Kudos to the mother for resisting.
Next time I suggest that she does take her son, and go through the protocol for signing in, and then leave. This will serve as legal documentation that she actually visited the prison. No child should ever go to jail to visit anybody.

Legally the judge wasn't wrong. She agreed! It was a court order! If she had a problem with it, she should have contested it! Wtf?! Every now and then a person will receive justice but you can never count on the system to be consistent with their ruling because it depends on the judge, who's invloved and what kind of case it is. This is not a real justice system and it never has been and it never will be but it's wishful thinking.

The mother should have taken the boy to a psychiatrist in order to bring documentation to the court that the visits were harming her son. Then file a peition to have the visitation reversed. She did the right thing to protect her son, but went about it the wrong way. Now a judge who did not want to use common sense, took application of the law to far. Now the boy is without his mother for two months. What does this judge think this teaches the child?
