Two weeks after being hospitalized for overdosing on aspirin and a sleep aid, singer Fantasia Barrino says it was no accident. She wanted to die."I didn't have any fight in me. I didn't care about anything. I just wanted out," the American Idol winner, 26, tells VH1 in a new Behind the Music interview, airing 9 p.m. ET/PT Tuesday, the same day her new album, Back to Me, is released. "At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive]."
She continues: "I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can't accidentally take a whole bottle of pills."
Barrino's manager, Brian Dickens, recalls finding her lying on the floor in her room. "Her emotions were extremely low," he says. "She'd been crying all day. Fantasia was just numb. Fantasia texted me, saying 'I love you.' I wrote back, 'I love you more.' Then it hit me."
"I wrote, 'You better not do anything or think about doing anything stupid.' And I left it at that. About 10 minutes later, Fantasia texted me back, and she said, 'Already did.' I went into Fantasia's room and saw her on the floor, and my heart just dropped."
What made the successful singer, who's preparing to release her third album, want to end her life? "I was tired of people doing me wrong, constantly, over and over again, dealing with my family – my father, dealing with men and their [expletive] – I was tired," she says. "My head was hurting me. I was over it."
Affair with Antwaun Cook To complicate matters even more, Barrino is now being threatened with a lawsuit by Paula Cook, the wife of Antwaun Cook, with whom Fantasia had been having an affair.
"When I met him, he was separated ... wasn't living in his home. He didn't want to be back with his wife – that is what I was told," Barrino says. "I remember waking up in the hospital [and thinking], 'It didn't work, I'm still here in this hellhole. Still here with all this drama going on.' "
Ultimately, the singer says the saving grace was her nurse. "My nurse Melanie was a blessing into my life because she didn't tell me what I wanted to hear," she says. "She told me what I needed to hear. And she looked at me and said, 'You gotta get up, and you've gotta get out of here, 'cause you haven't fulfilled your destiny.' "
"I realized how people end up in the grave. Because that one moment [snaps her fingers] of just breaking or feeling like I can't, I can't go on, it's too heavy. That was somewhere I don't ever want to go again."

What bothers me the most about this article FANTASIA!..Is the fact that when it's all said and done about the drama! Wether it be family, your lover(his wife) and friends. It WAS a publicity stunt for her album. 2-3 days after it happened paparazzi caught pictures of her FILMING A SCENE FOR HER REALITY SHOW with Cook, which means the whole "suicide" thing will be on the show as well. My friend's mother works for VH1 & she even told me that 85% of ALL of the shows are scripted & sometimes the writers can't even believe how far people are willing to go, they don't care if their humiliated as long as someone can remember their name for 15 minutes.
I don't feel bad for her. You don't yell and scream at the wife "You should have known how to keep him!" The wife has all legal rights to try to restore the marriage, after all, they took vows before God and their family. I'm only a nurse, a black woman with 3 of his children..I'd be biased anyway.. But what I can tell you is that as a human being, and a nurse, I have seen some at their lowest, most weakest points. Many who suffer from intense sorrow don't use drugs or alcohol to numb the pain, hence they do something stupid like this.. Not me.. Vengence is mines says the Lord. Antwaun's lawyer, Nicole Sodoma, released a statement tonight regarding Antwaun's position about both Fantasia and his wife Paula. And we quote: "Antwaun would be remiss not to address the criticism and judgment he has received. He knew Fantasia Barrino but the failure of his marriage can in no way be blamed on anyone except the two people that were a part of the union – Paula and Antwaun. [Paula and Antwaun] expected their marriage to stand the test of time. Unfortunately, like many marriages, it did not turn out as planned. In late summer 2009, after years of discussion, the parties separated with the intention of no longer being married."
Fantasia claims that she believed Antwaun and Paula had already split up when they began dating. Paula stated in court documents that the two split June 16, 2010....not summer 2009 as Antwaun is stating.

It was very stupid of her to try to kill herself and not think of at least her daughter. i don't get tht. but we don't live in her shoes. she also said her father and family. they depend on her for everything!!!! over a man, no i don't get tht at all. but i do feel sorry for her, cause its obvious she's not to bright. alot of us women have been dumb over some stupid negro, but it shouldnt go this far. but her family doesnt help at all!!! its obvious its starts with her dad. i like her music and she seems cool. she just made a bad mistake. she's not perfect.
I don't feel sorry for her but I can and will pray for her strength. Pray for her family's strength cause they are going to need it. This is a dark time for her and for as much as she has overcome it is people like the ones on this page judging her that can and will set her back. This is a time for us to lift her up. Who are you to judge her? Fantasia is an amazingly strong woman who has been through alot. Not every woman can get over what she did and push to do better for their children. She has made mistakes but everyone makes those and if you say that you haven't then you are a liar. I wish Fantasia success, wealth and happiness. I pray that the man she desires comes to restore her and to those that are trying to break her; every dog has his day. So keep trying to destroy her it will only make her stronger. I am saddened at the way we has a minority try to break or tear down another person. If it were you and someone did that to you, i am sure you would be ready to throw words. When Fantasia won everyone was cheering for her and wanted her to succeed but because she choosed to do something that majority of you have done and just didn't get it publicized you want to critizie and cast judgement. The the adulterer in the bible was taken to Jesus for punishment and Jesus looked and said "Let he that is without sin cast the first stone." So since you want to cast stones I guess you are blameless and have never done anything wrong. Fantasia there is a reason that you didn't die. You still haven't completed what you were suppose to do here. There is plenty left for you to do and that nurse that talked to you was exactly right. You need to push forward and leave all that other stuff behind. If you can't push forward for you then push forward for that beautiful little girl Zion that looks up to you and wants to be like you. Push forward for the little girls watching you and wanting to sing like you. Push forward cause you are an amazing woman who has a story to tell. You have only told the first half of your story. You have a praise on the inside that must come out. You have a story that is going to save someone else's life. Stop hating on her and start pushing her forward. Instead of tearing her down begin to restore the pieces of her that are torn and broken. Your day will come when you need to be restored and we will see who is there to pick you back. I have one question did any of you fools even read the story? Her issue was not just the married man. That is all you took from the story. The girl was tired of ppl like you hating on her, she was tired of people always taking from her and offereing nothing in return. Her daddy sued her and she was taking care of her family. Dang you illiterate people read what you want to read and comment on what you want to comment on. If you go to college do you use the knowledge you've been given? I mean dang. Ugh! Yes, she has a child but she is still her own person and i am sure she loves her daughter but she has problems that require help and God to step in. I feel sorry for her, but I don't. I'm empathetic towards the pain, heart-ache, and constant family drama and hurt she's endured. But I don't feel bad for her b/c she got herself in a situation that wasn't smart. She sacrificed a lot and fell in love w/ a man who @ the end of the day did not really love her, and chose his family over her. So now she's reaping the consequences of it. To commit suicide is the most selfish thing a person can do, especially when you have a child. She was woman enough to get into that situation, she needs to be a woman by facing and dealing w/ the after-effects.

Um ok well I just viewed her VH1 Behind The Music special. & of course they sensationalized THE HELL out of the entire segment.
