'4' has sold considerably less in it's first week of release compared to Bey's prior CD's. Don't get me wrong, over 300k is good, but still kind of a disappointment by Bey standards.
'Sasha Fierce' sold over 420k in it's first week of release back in '08. 'B'Day' sold over 540k it's first week of release back in '06. 'Dangerously In Love' had 317k in sales during it's first week release back in '03.
Hate to bust your bubble stans, but Bey is going through a popularity decline. She hit her peak with 'B'Day'..Now she's coming back down to earth. It happens to the best of artists.

But the total for the albums worldwide are 6 million for B'Day and I Am Sasha Fierce is 7 million. When people were actually buying albums back when Dangerously in Love Beyonce sold 317,000 first week. Beyonce didn't try to have an album following current musical trends. This album is a lot more soulful and mature album that's what out now. She's getting some of her best crtical reviews ever.
Yolanda123, I was only using first week sales to compare '4' to Bey's prior CD's, and based on that alone, this CD thus far has sold the least out of all of them (as far as US sales go).
Of course only time will tell how many albums will sell worldwide. And it is true that people are not buying music like they used to nowadays.
The album is really good. I'm glad that Beyonce didn't do an electropop album. I'm glad she did some real singing and had a full sound. This is Beyonce's fourth consecutive #1 album I think she is maybe the only 2nd female to do that. Rihanna got 5 solo albums never went #1 and sold 200,000 of her last album. So it's hard to get these kind of numbers, period. Beyonce's album leaked earlier than I've seen any other artist. Beyonce didn't discount her album to $0.99 like Gaga.
