People have the right and the freedom to be with whomever they choose. I am always fascinated by the very apparent double standard in how black women who enter interracial relationships are perceived as opposed to black men who do the same.
If a similarly situated black male 'celebrity" had made the exact same statements as she made in the magazine (not including mto's spin) there still would have been an avalanche of negative reaction. When a black female does it, it is met with a shrug of the shoulders.
When two similarly situated black people engage in the same behavior (dating someone out of their race) a black man is seen as giving up on or turning his back on black women, yet a black woman is seen as taking a reasonable and justifiable step. Alot of black women feel rejected and some black women see it as black men rejecting them because he thinks we are ugly and/or not good enough for him. I don't know. While I see black men and biracial men date women of other races, I find most tend to marry black women. I am dating a biracial man who mostly dated white women in the past and we are happy together.

The numbers and statistics dont back up the double standard that exists in how the black community deals with this issue. When you look at black men who get married, only 10% of them are marrying outside of their race. That means 90% of black men still marry black women. So when 9 out of 10 black man are marrying black women, how is that 1 who doesn't worthy of being treated with a double standard?
We can't allow media perception to impact the reality. The media may love to showcase black male-white female couples and hookups, but that doesn't make it the reality of what's really happening when people go to the altar.

There's nothing we can do to bring back the strong blk family unit. Those who refuse to date outside their race will hold that down, but for the most part, everyone else is jumping ship sort to speak. I think alot of black men date outside their race, but they tend to marry black women. I still say black women need to explore their options more just like black men are.

Has anyone read the book "The Street" it's fiction yet does a wonderful job of illustrating the complexities of problems in the black community.
On one hand you had the black woman FORCED to take care of the household b/c the black man couldn't work. But then the black man feels like his manhood is taken away and becomes resentful against the black woman. At the same time, the black woman is resentful against the black man b/c she IS the one taking care of the family while he's not doing anything--through know fault of his own.
This actually extends all the way back to slavery while the black woman was raped by the white man, how does the black man feel NOT being able to protect his wife? Or the fact that once the white man realized there was a family, he would intentionally break it apart.
Moving on forward, then we've got the black women who realize all this intentional destruction of the black family infrastructure, and to make up for it, they overcompensate and raise "baby boys". How many of us women grew up in a household where we cleaned, cooked, and reared while our brothers barely did sh*t? I bet more than we realize. So the women go on to college since they were taught how to be responsible while the baby boys are slinging dope etc.
But it doesn't end there, b/c whether you're an college educated woman or not, there's a high probability that you grew up without a father and therefore are constantly seeking love and attention. So you act out or you let a man treat you like sh*t. This is a neverending cycle.
And don't even get me started on social welfare, that's one of the WORST things that happened to black people. We've got generational welfare families!
Then we've got the have nots and haves. The black people who are haves look at the have nots like "why the f*ck should I help you when I busted my *** and you could of done the same?" Well, because unfortunately and sadly, the have nots didn't know any better. Actually this is less a color issue than a political/social issue.
What's the answer? Damned if I know. If I knew it I'd fix it. For me personally I just work my *** off and look out for self and family, trying to leave something for children that I either have or adopt. I don't date white men but I also know I ain't gonna end up alone "waiting" on something. I don't see myself with a white man though b/c I don't feel it in my soul, but if it were to happen I wouldn't breed. But I also don't want other black women to feel like thay have to "wait" on something that just might never come. Or to feel LESS THAN just b/c some BLACK MAN tells you that no one else wants you. It's just not true and it's a lie to brainwash you.

I see where you are coming from..I hear that perspective often. I still hold to the view that if black women widened their view and considered all their options, then there would not be those "left out in the cold". Black men should not be criticized for considering their options, nor should black women for doing the same. Fair is fair.
In this day and age you arent going to have a 100% marriage rate....There are many factors beyond race and ethnicity....social class, education, personality, values, religion, etc...that lead people to connect and spend time with one another. It is inevitable that some people will date and marry across ethnic lines because they find a common ground aside from skin color....
One thing: Its interesting what is considered to be a "good" man or woman....Sometimes there is a tendency to look at the "resume" alone in determining that...I know plenty of men and women who are professional and educated who are NOT good people...Bad morals, ethics, values...unappealing personality traits...Just not "good people", even though they are accomplished. As much as wanting someone professional and accomplished is desirable, there are many other things that go into finding an ideal mate. Not calling anyone out, but often people who claim they cannot find a partner have a LOT more going on to explain why they can't find a partner.
There's also geography...Some cities have much larger black professional communities...making it easier for black professionals to meet...But in other cities the numbers lead people to have to look outside the box much more...
It's just not a black and white (no pun intended) issue....There's a lot of factors and no simple answers, nor do I think there need to be. I think if people are open minded enough and know what they want, there's someone out there for everybody.

Why do people say Rihanna is both black and white? I sawa photo of her mum and her mum's very dark - like African looking dark. There was even a temporary photo of Rihanna and her dad at the Music awards back in her country and he's no white man. He's light skinned but not white. He had nappy hair like an ordinary black man.

Another thing, in 2005 when Rihanna came out just 2 years ago, she was darker than she actaully is now. Look at her Pon de Replay cd or whatever it's called. She had a darker skin tone. I even noticed spots on her skin in the photos back then and now, they've practically cleared up. It only takes money for the finest, quality creams. She has an image to display so she needs to look her best at all times and that means presenting a clear skin tone.
Yusef you should be concerned about how black men degrade their own black women too. I can't think of other races who do this as much as black men so you can't really blame a black woman for not wanting them. In a society where men are valued over women and white over black, who else can black men like Unlce Tom lash out on and degrade other than black women. I've yet to meet a white man face any real backlash for marring a black woman but white women have been run out of communities over black men. Most likely, many unwed mothers, got involve with a boy ( not a man) who probably grew up with out a father. Now, they are raising boys themselves, without a father figure. This boy will grow-up to get another naive, sexual active girl pregnant. She will try to raise her kids without a father. If she has a girl, the girl will most likely grow up with issues, not trusting men or becomes sexually active at young age, trying to find love in men that only see her as a good lay.
