Obama was right. That was neither the time nor the place. If she chooses to express herself artistically, then she can do it at her own concerts. The controversy is working, because everyone knows her name and is hitting her site. It's just a poor way to go about getting attention. |

Why does Barack Obama have to respond to everything Black people say and do? If it hadn't been for his successful campaign, no one outside of Denver Metro would've heard about this. |

She was wrong but some white people are completely blowing this out of proportion. Republicans have [EXPLETIVE] this country up and got us into a war for no damn good reason. Sorry, but they won't talk their way out of an ass-whippin and a Black president just because this lady messed up the national anthem. |

@Goliano: Yup, that’s what this story is really all about. Fears regarding potentially the first black president. What this women did was wrong in the context of what she was hired to do…but politically it feeds into the “spin” the opposition would use, and the excuses prejudice individuals have regarding Obama…the “black anthem” proves to them that there is some secretive “other” agenda that black Americans have. It piles onto the Rev. Wright drama…which was a non issue until Obama. When the story of this singer first broke, I entertained the idea that she was perhaps a black republican trying to undermine Barak, knowing this would cause an uproar…in reality she’s just an opportunist who wanted publicity, knew it would cause an uproar, but really didn’t care…very neo-CONist, but not necessary meant to be political. |

I agree. I guess the Mainstream Media (MSM) thinks we all think alike.
They have been smearing Obama in other way too:

These are politically sensitive times and black people in the public eye should be aware that their behavior can be alluded to as political whenever it serves the other side. That lady was just a selfish and self important twit, not unlike PUFFY who should just STFU with his OBAMA or Die, nonsense. |

SisterSolidier:
Hey girl! Most whites who have limited experience with black people think we ALL are loud mouthed, militant, radical, gandbanger breeders who spend too much money on material items but don't invest in our own neighborhoods. They think we all live by kool-aid and flaming hot cheetos. And they think most of us are all on welfare.
I'm not making this up, I read comments like this all the time on other blogs. And Black person who actually perpetuates these stereotypes is going to set us all back. Sorry to offend some of you, but Bill Cosby was right!
Barack Obama's candidacy has put a magnifying glass on the African American community, the way we live, and the way we think, etc. And every little thing we, as a people, do that can be interpreted in a negative way will always inadvertently affect the views others have of him personally. We should acknowledge and respect that. It may not be fair, but it is reality. And until we overcome that, we have to "be easy". Every Black figure that has done or said something to try and "help" the movement has really set it back without really trying to. I feel like everybody should just let the Obama's handle themselves. What they've done (and are continuing to do) is an accomplishment that many of us are extremely proud of and we get over excited about it at times. But if we relax and allow things to play out as they may, we'll begin to see better results.
I'm not saying that we should "bow" to what these people who have commented on the situation in a racially ignorant way think. I think it's unfair that people have less tolerance for what is special and important to Black people in particular. But knowing this, we need to be careful (responsible) to take heed of how our actions may affect others and how our intentions may be interpreted. It's not being a "house negro" it's being responsible and considering other factors besides our personal agendas. |

Obama probably only commented on it because he was cornered into making a statement about it just because he's Black. You don't see McCain getting hammered with those types of questions. It's like when something happens in society that involves someone Black, you get asked by every White person at your job what you think about it, or what was the person thinking, as if you have a clue. |

Whites thought less of the blacks the day we were put on chains and treated worst the animals. Stop thinking black people could ever change the minds of whites. Even after slavery, blacks were very civil & classy people and we were still treated as second class citizens. People kill me saying, this is why whites think of us this way. Like if we actually changed, their attitude toward blacks would...Puhleaze!!! We need to start caring about ourselves 1st & stop looking for approval from others. |

The one thing I know that pisses White people off and would drive them to kill(and it doesn't take much considering their history) is f*cking up an anthem of a country that doesn't belong to them, and demolishing a flag that also represents a country that doesn't belong to them. Yep, that'll making them "killing madd!" |
