This is so sad
What's even sadder is the fact that some of the "Greeks" here on FB are going to comment on this story by saying how there's is better..it's happened before
I personally did not need to be hazed or join a CLUB to be validated as an educated middle class Black person. That's all these groups are...clubs for the ones who feel better than ghetto folk to join
And no, it's not because I could not "stand" the process. I had to desire to join foolishness
Why are people still joining these bullshyt organizations? I laugh at these dumb fukks when I see em advertising that shyt on their license plates and windshields. I never needed to join a gang to survive and I definitely never needed to join a frat to get a job. Brotherhood my foot. I got a brother already, and I aint need to take an ass whoopin to get one. losers
I TOTALLY Agree with everyone's comments! They take it tooooo far! As someone said, all it is an accepted COLLEGE GANG. Condolences to the family of that young man. After college and when you're not at a Homecoming..no one cares about these so-called 'helping-the-Community' organizations anyway..ughhh!!!
This is so sad, why do people put themselves through hell to be a part of an organization that cares nothing about their safety. No I am not a Greek hater, my brother is Phi Beta Sigma and my sister is a Zeta Phi Beta and I supported them in wanting to be a part of their organizations but like others have said it is not a guarantee that your frat brother or sister will have the pull to get you a job after you graduate college or that being a part of the organization gives you networking. It’s silly that guy died, if it is all true because of the extensive process of pledging and not because of some other underlying factor. Now we have another black organization on blast for the nation to see that we are screwing our own over. AKA , Phi Beta Sigma and other Greek organization are supposed to be setting a good example for the community but they all over the news for negative stuff. Sure they do community work but anybody can do that whether they are part of an organization or not and I am sure they have other good things going for them too but please get it together and stop the potentially fatal pledging processes or the wrong handling of funds.
I hate to hear things like this. WE all have to be aware of our actions. Fraternities and Sororities must always have the person's best interst at heart even of it means finding out potential members' medical history and reevaluating their processes. Family/Friends should also take heed to danger signs and act accordingly. Lastly, those seeking to pledge should never risk their health. There are graduate chapters, and other undergraduate chapters to conside, IF it is that important to you. On behalf of the Blue & White family I send my deepest condolences and prayers.
