I don't agree with the bailouts first Bush then Obama, but I honestly believe had it not happened we were heading for big trouble. People were loosing their homes in record numbers, food pantries were running out of food, unemployment skyrocketed, banks weren't lending to small businesses-which is the life blood of our economy-so that they could stay afloat, and the stock market was about to crash. The economy was coming to a stand still. Gas was at over 4 dollars a gallon.
We were heading towards armageddon. Folks weren't able to find jobs for months to years. It took us years to dig ourselves out of the Great Depression. No one was spending money, people were hiding their money, and the economy came to a stand still. It is easier to stop the bleeding than it is to bleed out and try to restart the heart. Obama did what he had to do. I think a lot of companies should have been able to go under especially these shady banks, but that would mean a total collapse. The deficit can be repaid. Healthcare was part of his initiative when he ran for office.
