Peope are blaming the parents and they have nothing to do with it. The kids are just trying to have fun. South Street is like that every weekend I would know because I am a Philadelphian. If you were to go on youtube and type in south street brawls all your gonna see is white faces you racst. Meidatkeout if your gonna post a story at least make sure the link comes from a credible source, not the Daily News
and another thing they have been doing this [EXPLETIVE] since December so you should have posted this when it was a big deal. All groups of kids are considered flash mobs even the little 5 year olds. Its just another ploy to lock up all our youth. And you people are falling for it. Can ask yall whats going on in your city that hasn't hit mainstream yet? Just think about it they keep info from you until they think they can use u to help there cause
I was on South Street that night first I went to get a tattoo and there were a whole lot of kids there, but nothing was really going on. They were just walking around eating and such things. Then we came back to go this bar and we parked at a friend's house about 6 blocks away and walked down. This time there were a lot more kids, but nothing special was going on. When we left the bar there were still lots of kids but now there were also lots of police. From my prospective I saw the police harassing the kids more than I saw the kids doing anything they weren't supposed to.
The police were threatening the kids with batons as they were crossing the street, yelling at them, and all types of other stuff. The next day I found out my brother was down there too. He told me that they just send out mass facebook messages saying where to meet and that's where everybody goes. Most of them don't go with the intent to do any damage they just need to have fun. Him and his friends just went to talk to girls. You have to realize Philly is a place where there isn't a lot the youth can do without being harassed by police, and I can attest to that from my teenage years.
Even now at 21 the police still get out of line from time to time. I was in a club once and the police walked in and maced the entire club for no particular reason. or another time when my bro and his friends threw a party in which they paid for the venue, paid for a dj, paid for security, and multiple other things out of their own money and the cops shut it down at 12 when it was supposed to go to 2. When my mom and another parent asked what was going on they said they got a complaint from someone on the next block over that there were too many suspicious teens walking around the area.
So in an effort to keep the neighborhood safe they shut down the party, even though there was no violence or anything like that. These kids are just looking for a release and since they are being denied it everywhere they turn they have decided to take it. I can't really say I blame them. Teens in Philly are pretty much forgotten. Especially black ones from poorer parts of the city. Even though this probably wasn't their intention at least people are paying attention now. Soon enough the city will realize these kids aren't afraid of threats or the police.
I was out in center city that night and people actually got hurt. Some people were robbed, and some cell phones were stolen. I wouldn't say all the kids were involved though.
"Flash mob" is not a label for black teens though. White folks have been doing flash mobs for years. MTO needs to get a research department or something, because all the misinformation on this site is starting to get annoying.
