I have walked away from situations before and I teach my son to walk away. He is on the honor roll and he wants something out of like. I walk away all the time from ignorant people. I am a 3rd year law student and I know that violence is not the answer. You just cause yourself more problems in the long wrong. Like I said God gives us free will to make the right choice or the wrong choice.

Who are the Jena Six? The Jena Six are a group of black students who are being charged with attempted murder for beating up a white student who was taunting them with racial slurs, and continued to support other white students who hung three nooses from the high schools "white tree" which sits in the front yard.
Don't hate me because I use my brain and I don't waste it. Like I said they should have walked away, but yet they chose fight over a tree, a tree. They went over there starting trouble and we all know it. That poor white trash had been sitting there for ever and they went over there like ignorant ass black people do, starting trouble and now they are paying for it. I still don't care. They should've walked away all day long.

what anout the party where the one black boy got jumped what about the fact that a white man pulled a gun on some black kids at a gas station and nothing happened but then the same boys got in trouble for carrying a weapon what about them being taunted what about that? are you saying that those things were ok now if your son the boxer i think you said he was if he was jumped like that would you still feel the same way?
I live in the suburbs, but I volunteer in the hood and I see this ignorance all the time and I am just wondering when are we going to better ourselves? And I'm wrong because my son chooses not to fight, but to walk away sometimes. He had a fight and like I said he boxes and he almost killed the guy. He could have gone to jail for what? He hasn't fought since. He said it's not worth it. I want to make you proud of me and I want to be an attorney like you.
It's wrong, but this is the white mans world, that's just a fact and they are trying to put as many Black men in jail as possible. Don't you think that pisses me off when I hear this? I was going into the store and this white lady said something to me,because she thought I was trying to get in front of her and I was(LOL) I admit it. She made a remark. It took everything in me to just walk away. I swear I could see myself beating her ass, but I said I have too much to lose. They are going to lock me up and let her go and I will lose everything I have worked so hard for. My son was with me and he teases me saying you wanted to beat her up didn't you and I say yes, but she wasn't worth it.
sojourner I totally agree. violence is never the answer. These brovas were out to start ship when they made the decision to sit under that tree. If there was a problem with racism at the school, which is apparent and probably was long before this incident, then it shouldve been brought to the attention of the school authorities and the school board by the parents who probably knew what was going on and told these young black men to engage these obviously ignorant and violent whites.
I saw it and I wish they would have just walked away and went and sued the school district, the city and the state for discrimination. There are ways to do things. I'm just so sick of seeing Black people wasting their lives. I think that Black people are the smartest people on this earth, but we waste it and that's sad..
you know what we all have our own opinions but in a previous post someone said if we all just walked away slavery would still be here we have the freedom that we have because people decided enough is enough and stood up they got tired of walking away too many people died for me to have the rights i have now what about Genarlow Wilson cases like this and the Jena 6 is just more proof of how fucced up the system is and until we all stand up and stop walking away its going to stay like this

I think youre correct when you say that if we all just walked away, the institution of slavery might still exist. There are no disagreements from me on that sister...
HOWEVER...we are in 2007 where slavery does not exist, and people have fought and died that we may have the right to equality. We live in the season where a black president is a strong possibility. We have black millionaires and billionaires. In those times when we were being killed outright anyway, it was appropriate to have that mentality. However in these days and times, all you have to do is summons any form of media who will shed light on gross injustice in front of the world as well as those in authority. If you cant achieve justice locally, then you take it to higher authorities...you dont give up. You dont resort to violence which begets violence. You keep utilizing our system of government which is not perfect, but damn it its getting better.
If you watch the news, Anderson Cooper has been on the situation for the last 2 days. Keep writing to the authorities in Jena, express disgust at the injustice, and most importantly find ways to take money out of the local government of Jena. No beer, cigarettes, or gas, first, or anything else should be brought in Jena by supporters of the Jena 6 until those young men are freed. Then we organize to keep the faces of these youth in front of America.....Brainstorm.
I was in the LA riots in 1992. It got us nowhere but in the end burnt up community, and humiliation in front of the world.

No Doubt there's always a better way when you're on the outside looking in. I don't condone what happened or how it happened but that's not the problem. The REAL issue is that those teens are being punished unfairly because of their RACE not their actions.
No fighting is not the answer. But to imply that they should've known better because "that's how things work down south" or suggest tip-toeing because "it's a white man's world" to avoid such treatment will not help nor prevent racism from happening. let me say those young men did not sit under a public tree to start trouble, what happened on a different day they sat under this tree,and the whites that normaly sit there, were angry, and decided to tie noose in the the same tree on a high school ground, the princple, didnt think it was offensive enough to expell anyone and with racial tentions already on high things went from bad to worse, before this incident one of the black youth, was already beaten by three of the white boys, and the police did nothing, after the tree ordeal someone white man or boy pulled a gun on one or more of these black youths and it was reported to the police and nothing was address still,so the explosion came with the fighting and a white boy getting beat down, now the town and the some whites in the town became outraged and here we now have the jena 6, its wasnt important to this town until the mistreatment of these young black men. Charge the white ones with the hate crimes, which do carry a prison sentence, and charge the Blacks with assault and battery. Not murder. This should have also been tried in a juvenile court, not using the bait and switch tactics the prosecutor has used to get it into adult courts in the first place. He deliberately filed for murder, so they could be tried as adults, then switched the charges to assault/battery before the case was called. But once the case has gotten into the adult system, they have a right to hear the case, and NOT demote it back to the juvenile division. Do the crime, do the time sure thing, but damn. So some dummies get beat up, its murder charges, yet the Flagship celebrity folks like lindsey and Paris' and Nicole R. get slaps on the wrist every danged day.

Here's the problem, there are tons of people who should have intervened along the way but did nothing
White tree incident- the school should have rolled out a program that made it crystal clear this behavior would not be acceptable. It should not have been left to do the job of an adult
White fight- after a black got hit over the head with a bottle and jumped by white adults, community should have intevened with diversity training or some type of dialouge, that didn't happen
Jason pulls gun on black students- Fist off, this tells me the nation really hasn't gotten serious even after Columbine and the Virginia Tech shootings. That boy should have been brought up on attempted murder charges for pulling out a gun on kids on school property. But it seems attempted murder charges are reserved for blacks and the weapon of choice is tennis shoes. The feds should have intervened in light of recent events concerning weapons on school primises. That didn't happen

She had on sandals with the back part of your feet out. He said "look everbody at all that husk (yes husk) He called the roughness of her feet and the ashiness of her feet HUSK! It was on then. The name calling got worst. I enjoyed it though. My close friend just buried her husband and daughter together last week. They were hit when the driver lost control of his 18 wheeler. @LAK you are so right. We are slowly allowing others to disregard, disrespect and ignore our rights. It's a shame that years later we are still having to fight for what has already been declared something that we have a right to. But we enable them to keep us down when we dont't reach out and help our fellow brother or sister who has fallen down. Do you even know the story behind Jena 6? Probably not, but here is a lil quick recap...... 'Six black males from Jena, LA asked the principal if it was ok to sit under a tree that whites did not allow blacks to sit under for decades. When the principal gave the person permission while stating that that tree is not just for whites, the six black males decided to sit under the tree. The next day, black nooses was hung from the tree by white males. Defending themselves and their black culture, those blacks decided the best action was force after insulting words were exchanged.' Those black nooses symbolized the hanging of black males from that tree.
If someone threatened your life, would you just sit back and allow it to happen? Will you have walked away? or would you defend your name and your life?
If you are black, then your ignorance is not understandable but it is evident that your mind is under the influence of white brainwashing. If I was in that same situation, I would have resulted to voilence. Those white males that hung those nooses was ignorant. And in some cases, you can not minimize ignorance with words. Words will only heighten them, thus adding to their ignorance.
If black people keep brushing off everything that demens them or everything that give someone else the power of them, then blacks people will be brushing way back to slavery..... Black people will never rise as a people if we don't stick together and form a union after what is right.

This is the story: In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a "whites only" shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn't sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn't care where students sat. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree. (Please note, the tree above is not the tree, but a tree at Jena High School.) The boys who hung the nooses were suspended from school for a few days. The school administration chalked it up as a harmless prank, but Jena's black population didn't take it so lightly. Fights and unrest started breaking out at school. The District Attorney, Reed Walters, was called in to directly address black students at the school and told them all he could "end their life with a stroke of the pen."
Black students were assaulted at white parties. A white man drew a loaded rifle on three black teens at a local convenience store. (They wrestled it from him and ran away.) Someone tried to burn down the school, and on December 4th, a fight broke out that led to six black students being charged with attempted murder. To his word, the D.A. pushed for maximum charges, which carry sentences of eighty years. Four of the six are being tried as adults (ages 17 & 18) and two are juveniles.

You out of all people should know charging a 17 year old as an adult for a fight and giving them 40 years is stupid and makes no sense. You can teach your son to walk away but one day he may not and in fact if he is arrested for his act should he get 40 years for a high school fight. You can throw racial slurs around and call yourself educated but in actuality you are a insecure coward who dislikes likes him self.
