WTF? I'd done my research on this issue before I went to see it, and frankly, I wanted to see it because I wanted to see how they were going to package it, and slide this one by us. It was brilliant how them mofo's did it. I never cry during movies, but the part where they cut from the dead woman with the baby on the bed, back to Frank Lucas's really nice house was absolutely horrid. There was a line where Denzel said "I have Harlem protecting me"..and I wondered how could an entire community support someone like that back in those days?

I could not agree with your premise that Frank Lucas was a pawn of the CIA. I put two and two together after watching a Hitory Channel show about drugs during Vietnam. They reported, and I am paraphrasing, that there was government involvement when drugs were being sent to the US with the dead bodies of soldiers. Coincedence, I think not.

I don't think that Uncle_Tom is saying don't support Denzel or that the movie was not well written or directed. What he is saying is do not make Frank Lucas an antihero hero (i.e. Staggerly, Briar Rabbit), which is quite common in black literature. He was a thief and a murderer. I have not seen the movie yet so I cannot say that Frank Lucas is depicted as a hero, but I have been part of conversations with black men who have seen the movie and they are already talking about how cool he (Frank Lucas) was, etc, etc, etc.

IMO the film did NOT glorify the lifestyle of a drug kingpin, nor did it celebrate the life of Frank Lucas.

I said I WAS BOYCOTTING THE MOVIE and I hope I was able to communicate a resonable and logical explanation for my boycott....I do have some degree of clout over my family and thats about it...I sat my children down and explained to them about the connection between the CIA and the explosion of illegal narcotics in African American communities historically and I showed them factual proof....Now they share the info with their friends who did see the movie so they are making a positive difference...They can see other movies....We have a whole collection of Nigerian movies and Indian movies which tell great stories and are much more believable.

We name call, categorize and at times present a holier-than-thou attitude when someone may not overstand, or be in the same frame of mind. We withold information, from those we deem "not worthy" or "enlightened" enough. We can be very judgmental people - and maybe for valid reasons, but im not gonna swipe at someone or entice confrontation when there really isn't any.
Realistically, if I had something to prove, and was 21 years young - I would open my window, and take a digital picture as proof of where I reside, but would that make me any more credible? Nah..it wouldnt.

The difference between me, the Uncle Toms, HUEman's, and various internet preachers is - I and various friends connect with today’s generation.

I can not agree with you more. I saw the movie two weeks ago. First coincidence was that the movie was bootlegged in the black community and an acutual good version of the movie downloaded straight from the Oscars website. I have never seen a movie jacked like that the week before it was to release in theaters in such good quality....then yes the whole movie was well written but I totally believe it was something up with the military helping him get drugs into US and no one finding out about it. Pretty much everything you said sums up my opinion of the whole movie...Your analysis was so clear and concise.
