: Juanita Bynum - In Need of a New Prayer Room
Last *** I watched a video in which Juanita Bynum requests her "partners" to help her build a new a "Threshing Floor" on her property (12 acres) so she can be "safe". Now when I first viewed the video for some reason it reminded me of Ms. Cleo the psychic that appeared on late *** television that could do something for you if you gave her some money. In this case Juanita will pray for you if you give her a donation.
Here are some of my issues with her video:
* Bynum talks about needing to construct "Threshing Floor" so she could pray for the nation and the folks that donate. The God I know - takes prayers from anywhere. The bible does tell us to go into our secret closet - a quiet space - surely Ms. Bynum has a room within her existing quarters that she can go pray privately.
* Bynum has photographs of herself wailing, flailing and praying throughout her video. My first thought upon viewing the photos caused me to wonder why there was a photographer present during her "prayer" time. I thought we were to pray in secret not in public to be seen.
* Bynum is asking for a $200 minimum donation for her "floor". Bynum does not appear to be a person that is struggling to make ends meet, but I would assume that some of those that follow her are. While $200 may not be much to some folk, it is a significant amount of money to others. I've seen folks dig in their pocket to give to ministries by sacrificing money they needed for bills and other necessities. It's baffles my mind. Anyhow, my bible tells me to give to the needy not to the greedy.
While I support her to the fullest in her decision to kick Mr. Weeks to the curb for the beat down he gave her last month, I can't get with the apparent marketing of her pain to others for a quick buck that only benefits her.
Domestic violence is a serious issue that needs to be addressed within the church. There are countless women/men (yes some men get beat down by women) sitting in pews weekly that are being abused by someone claiming to be a Christian, yet some of these women/men have no one to turn to within the church for guidance and ***. Since Juanita is the self appointed face of domestic violence, if she was going to solicit donations for anything, you would think it would be to start up a ministry to address domestic violence and help women/men to flee unsafe relationships.
